Philippine police rescue dogs from slaughter

More than 50 dogs were rescued during a police raid on a slaughterhouse in the northern Philippines, where dog meat is considered a delicacy, police said Sunday. Police raided the slaughterhouse in Mapandan town in the northern province of Pangasinan after receiving a tip, according to town police chief Senior Superintendent Haron Rasid Ali.

Ali said 12 dogs had been slaughtered before the raid on Saturday.

"Concerned citizens told authorities that dogs were being killed in this compound, so we conducted the raid," he said.

The butchered dogs were supposed to be delivered to several restaurants in the mountain resort city of Baguio. Each carcass sells for up to 1,000 pesos (22 dollars).

The owner of the slaughterhouse was arrested during the raid, while a village official from a nearby town is being investigated for allegedly being part of the illegal operation.

Ali said the rescued dogs were brought to the town's veterinary office for rehabilitation.

Despite being illegal, the trade in dog meat is rampant in the northern Philippines where locals say eating the delicacy helps ward off cold weather.

The email in regards to human fetuses being consumed in china is a hoax, what they do consume in some of the more provinchal areas of china and in some of the Nordic countries is the placenta/afterbirth, it is said that considering during pregnancy that a lot of the mothers own nutrients that she consumes is absorbed into the placenta that it is a way for her to regain these..

About considering the meat we eat and were it came from.. Here is some food facts for thought

Up until the early 70's that veal was actually produced by pulling the unborn calf from the cow...

Real prosciutto is made from Donkey...

Steak tatare is in fact made from horse meat...

Australia is the only country in the world that eats the animals present on it's national emblem...

Snails are also popular in South East Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore). In fact these farm grown animals or are caught from the sea, are clean and their diet is algae. It taste like squids and very chewy. YUMMY....

that is considered edible in our country. Not that common snail you see crawling in your walls. Mostly, these snails (edible) are cultured and are harvested in farms.

They are very delicious , they say (but I am not used to it so I also don't eat it (it's a personal choice). It's so delicious specially cooked in coconut juice.

actually, the uproar in this topic is they are giving emphasize on the ways or how the dogs are slaugthered. And since the Organization agaisnt cruelty to Animal in our country is becoming active, we have now a law outlawing slaughtering of dog for food consumption (but still it is prevalent in cold areas specifically in Northern Philippines). But does anyone asked a waiter, how the food he or she was served prepared or how the meat was taken from an animal (sort of asking how's the animal was killed?) Unless you asked for the head of the animals, it's very hard to distinguished a dog from a goat or lamb, or a rabbit from a chicken?

Does anyone received that e-mail regarding the "human fetus being served as delicacy in China? That's horrible even to imagine, but it's a reality in some part of China. What kind of people will ever take a soup that was prepared out of human fetus. YUKS. For sure, not God-fearing people.

Not all Filipinos eat dogs, it is a delicacy and it's in the northern part where most tourists go to.

Hmm.. dog for dinner? No.. that just made me lose my appetite. Dogs are supposed to be cute and cuddly not hot and tasty. :(

I still love my steak though.. and those lamb chops. Mmm Where do we cross the line people?? Where?!

that dies where blood was not removed. And any food (not only animals) prepared as a gift to "idols and saints or prepared for fiestas and religious ceremonies" (not acceptable in our faith).

We are not allowed to eat any animal which is carnivorous. Dog eats meat so we are not allowed to eat it. Goat, Sheep, Cow, Camel, Hen etc are all Herbivorous.

I was with my ex wife in a Chinese Restaurant in Hong Kong. We took our dog Fido in - Fido was one of the family so we took him simply everywhere. My wife, Doreen, and I ordered our dinner and Doreen pointed at Fido asking the Waiter to give him something to eat too. The waiter walked away with Fido on his Gucci Lead only to return 15 minutes later roasted with a black bean sauce on a silver platter. The Waiter clearly didnt understand. Doreen and I have since split - hic! Back to the gin.

Filipinos don't eat dog...

I see no difference between eating a goat, a dog or any other animals.

It is a culinary matter of regional and cultural interest among the populations.

If people eat a camel or a horse, there should be no problem in eating the dog.

At least dogs would not eat cardboard, like their cousins, the goats.

Maybe we need to roast more often some local bat for delicacy.

They got chicken wings for sale all the time, Why not batwings for sale? That will be a good idea for a change of eating habits.

Dracula and Kellyheores,

Why don't you try eating some buffalo testicles?

Leave DARUDE and the Filipino people alone.
