Pet Owners - Take Photos!

Chelsea

I know we've posted this before but with the increase in animals being lost we would just like to remind owners of the following.

** Your pet (dogs AND cats) should have a collar on at all times with some form of identification. This can be an engraved ID tag, plastic keyring ID tag or even just your phone number written on the collar in permanent marker. Even if your pet is purely an indoor animal, mistakes happen and doors are left open.

** You should have clear, recent photos of your pets in case they ever get lost. Sending me a photo of your 5 yr old cat when it was 6 weeks old is no good as it will have changed as it gets older!

There seems to be a suprising number of owners who do not have any photos of their pets. Please remember that we have hundreds of animals pass through the shelter every year and reporting a lost black and tan mixed breed is no use without a photo. Unless of course you want to come to the shelter to see every single black and tan dog brought in! We keep all lost animal photos on file as we have had cases of an animal being missing for over a year before it is brought into the shelter and having the photo on file allowed us to return the dog to the right owner.

Please be aware that there is not an increase in pet-knapping in Qatar. The increase in lost animals is purely down to the increase in pet owners. Contacting QAWS as soon as you find your pet missing is also important as we can keep an eye out for him/her and also give you advice on who else to contact.

Also if your cat has a collar and/or a name tag the Municipality will not usually trap it or take it for health checks/neutering when they have campaigns regarding street cats.
