Personal Thanks to my Nameless Rescuers

All happened so fast...I thought it was just a bad dream until I woke up this morning feeling dazed and mild body pains....

Late afternoon yesterday, I was on my way to Ras Laffan for a private Korean early dinner party invite, I managed to take the wrong Roundabout and found myself driving the Al Shamal Road. The last time I drove outside Doha was 2 years ago, and though an experienced and cautious driver(no record of accident since I got my license in 2006), I had the misfortune of losing my way. After almost 2 hours of driving through endless UNLIT diversion roads, I managed to find my way.

As I was driving (40kph) through another unlit asphalt-covered diversion (2-way) road between Simaisma and Shamal Road, I was startled by a fast-approaching pathfinder flashing its headlights for me to give way, which I did. But as I steered clear to the right (dirt road), hit the brakes but my car skidded and fell sideways in an UNMARKED/UNCOVERED DITCH.

I was unhurt, THANK GOD! But I'm dazed and shocked by it all. By the time I pulled myself out from the driver door window, 2 SUVs from both directions are there to check if I'm hurt and help me. They were Qataris in their white thobes, and though all of them speak little English, they didn't left my side and saw to it I'm not physically hurt.

Within minutes, 2 police cars were there, an ambulance and about 5 more SUVs stopped asking each one of those present what happened. 15 minutes later, a police tow truck pulled the car from the ditch and parked the car safely away from the road. When they finished the task, I saw them smile at me and told me not to worry as accident happens. Even the policemen took note that the ditch was UNMARKED.

The policemen even made sure that my friend(whom I called for help and arrived much later to pick me up from the site)would bring me home safely, which he did.

I'm still reviewing in my mind what happened. My headaches gone, trembling's gone too. I'm just happy I'm UNSCATHED and still VERY MUCH ALIVE.

THANKS TO THOSE WHO TOOK STOPPED and HELPED ME. I know I said "shukran" to everyone that was there.

To the Simaisma/Shamal Policemen and Ambulance personnel...MY HEARTFELT GRATITUDE...Allah Bless YOU!!!

Though there are some naughty ones I am sure they are outnumbered by the good ones like those Qataris who stopped to see if they can help. A friend of mine had a very minor accident too because of something that she hit on the road which probably fell from another vehicle. It made her stop on the side of the road because she was a bit shocked too. It didn't take too long before a group of locals who are passing, stopped to lend her a hand and ensure that she is safe. Really glad to know that lots of good people are around and ready to help if needed.

Saw the blinking lights from my rearview mirror that's why I decided to give way, turned on my TURN RIGHT LIGHT to the dirt road as I stepped on my brake for a slow stop to let it pass since it's in a hurry and I'm not. I'm already lost at that time and my only thought was to find my way back to the roads I know.

But before my car came to a FULL stop, it skidded and I saw that hole/ditch too late. Next thing I knew, the car fell SIDEWAYS. If I did managed to turn left to avoid the ditch, I know I would lose control and might have hit head on with any incoming cars/vehicles...which would be a much worse scenario.

THAT DITCH is unmarked/Uncovered in an unlit diversion road...and I'm the only one involved in the said road mishap.

The policemen saw the (mine)car's tire tracks and there's no way one could see it from the road UNLESS YOU FALL IN IT...which I DID.

That's where the experience of driving in India helps, you develop a sixth sense for unmarked/Uncovered ditches :P

Seriously though good to know that you are fine and didn't get hurt...

when I get the car running. Till now, it's still in a garage in Al Khor and need a replacement radiator. It's a rental car so I'm still gonna pay the daily rate even if it's in the garage and pay all the damages.

its nice to know you are safe... but shame to the driver of the pathfinder.... by the way, how did you know its pathfinder?

It was so dangerous.....

So did the Police give you an accident receipt? ...Will it be considered your fault ...as those guilty ran away...wonder what will be the Insurance Co's position on it?
