Hello Guys,

Any Candian guys around can tell me the process of obtaining a Canadian passport to new born in Qatar.

What is the procedure?
How long the process takes?
What if plan to travel in next month?
What other formalities required by Canada?

I would really appreciate, Regrards,

too much free time on your hands it seems...

congrats to you too!

i sent off my apps 2-3 weeks ago. fedex doesn't do this VISAPACK thing but apparently DHL does. the wife is travelling early july with our baby so it better work.

We had used Fed Ex and the embassy wanted the certified bank cheque drawn against a bank that had an affiliate with a Canadian address lol...pain in the butt...but thankfully its all sorted now.

We'll know better for number 2 this october or november =)

Stay safe.

you can now pay for the citizenship online.

and DHL has something called VISAPACK whereby they pay the fees and you pay them back when they return the documents.

citizenship is 75 $ CAD

passport is 30$ i think.

PPT 132 form is another 50$ because the british embassy here no longer signs the form (regardless of what the canadians say).

It took us about one month for the passport (and almost 11 months for the citizenship card) from Kuwait.

You also need to send them the birth certificate and a certified cheque made out to the receiver general for Canada (forgot the exact amount, sorry...but its all in the application form).

Best of luck and once again congratulation!

Stay safe all.

congrats on the new addition!

send an email to the canadian embassy in kuwait and ask them what needs to be done:

[email protected]

basically, you need to apply for a passport and citizenship for the baby at the same time. each has it's own application and requirements. if you have been in qatar for less than 2 years, you will also need a PPT-132 form (declaration in liew of guarantor). mention in your email that you have no guarantor if you have been here less than 2 years. they will also send you a PPT-112 form which is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions - be sure to ask them which box you are supposed to tick on this form.

citizenship can take up to 10 months. the passport should take 3 weeks.

they will issue your baby a one year temporary passport at first, and then when the citizenship is done, you can apply for a permanent passport.

BUT **** read the forms carefully. they are confusing and the embassy staff (for the most part) are not helpful. i had to get a passport in egypt too and they weren't very nice there either.

good luck!
