besides, the pvt taxi guys will park on the opp side and offer to carry your bags to their cars too... so win-win situation for both ;-)

Colty you right..Now they will park at the Mobil Petrol pump and then walk from there..Plus when you said around it..I think I already saw a hole in the perimeter fence..:)

It's just a matter of time mate, they will find a way to get around it ;-)

With Genesis and Baldrick on this one.. Atleast all these picking up the labourers wont block the Road of outside the exit gates.

Yes Flan is right too. will walk out of the departure terminal without having to be greated by a crowd who have just come out of watching a Kabadi match.

not to worry, they will still be there, only this time attired in uniform, waiting to drive you in their Karwa ;-)

@ flan, ahh the good ol' days are gone!!!...@ rishimba, that's the logic(or lack of it) in this town,my dad travels every other week, sometimes i pick him up if i'm free & the driver isn't,he calls me when he's walking out the terminal,i drive by,pick him up & leave & a LOT of people do the same & a LOT of people travel frequently in & out of Doha,so that logic makes no sense @ all...ANY airport that charges a fee for literally driving through(be it to pick up or drop off) defies logic, but then again,in this town, nothing surprises me...

By anonymous• 21 Dec 2010 20:58
anonymous

i am told its the arrival point, so the cars would mostly get parked to receive people. had this been a departure point, the drive through logic would be applicable..

By flanostu• 21 Dec 2010 20:38

does this mean half of the people from the subcontinent won't be greeting me when i next arrive?

By anonymous• 21 Dec 2010 20:31

fair enough, having to pay(the amount is immaterial) to drive through is plain ridiculous...if Heathrow & JFK don't need to resort to it,what's tiny little Doha International's excuse???...

on another issue but related to this, how on earth are they going to cope with all the new infrastructure needed for the WC2022, this is a small terminal and they can't even get the parking and entrance planned and opertaional properly.

By happygolucky• 21 Dec 2010 13:12

QR 2/- is no issues...but drive out could have been done a bit better ...used the far left exit gate and it almost immediately merges into the main road to the exit where the traffic may be coming from behind... can be an accident spot if someone is not watching over the shoulder.

and that's why i said it was robbery :)

totally agree Colt, I don't think anyone argues about paying a 2QR fee but just for a drop off or pick come, as you said no where in the world do you get charged for that

I arrived 2 nights ago and came out through the new terminal, it's beautiful for the amount of time they put it up in.

The downside is the planning of the drive-in/ out for the vehicles, it's abysmal when you think of there not being an option to just drive by without being ticketed :-(

And again, it's not about the QAR 2 we're talking here, it's just a stupid policy to charge everyone that passes through. I have pretty much traveled all over the world and I have not come across anything like this :-(

in dubai i used to pay a parking fee of 10 dirhams per hour while receiving friends or family...in this sense, 2 rials is just fine.

By Raven1968• 21 Dec 2010 12:31
Raven1968

that was my point Gadarene, I'm not adverse to paying but come on a quick pick up, most airports in the world allow this.

By anonymous• 21 Dec 2010 12:04

Colt,my apologies, haven't been through it yet,if there isn't a "pick-up only" option outside the terminal, seems a bit unfair that everyone has to cough up the Qr.2 even if the person they're picking up is already outside the terminal...

if you see the new arrivals terminal, there is no waiting/ drive by area, it's the main road you'll be waiting on. You have got to enter the service road and at the beginning of that, there is a ticket machine.

The issue ought to be the amount in question, which,in my opinion is a VERY nominal Qrs.2...people here have been spoilt by this "first 15 mins. free" system @ the old terminal that they're crying foul when a very nominal Qrs.2 charge is levied!...ridiculous!...you want to pick someone up? coordinate with them so you're waiting outside when they exit the terminal, pretty simple isn't it? & there's no charge for it,you want to park @ leisure, waltz into the terminal, wait for the passenger to exit the terminal AND you want free parking???...a bit much isn't it?...as baldricks said, you can't afford the Qrs.2(or are too tight fisted to part with it more likely),park outside & walk across the footbridge,simple...

What's not cool however, as deedee stated,is having to be stuck in traffic & having to pay for the "privilege"!...

By anonymous• 21 Dec 2010 11:35

...although QAR 2 is not a big figure. This is however only the arrivals terminal - it would be difficult for someone to park/abandon their cars at the arrivals terminal and then cab/take a lift to the departures - which now is at quite a distance.

Small charge to cover the NDIA airport delay - someone has to pay for the construction of this new arrivals terminal which would not have been necessary had the NDIA completed their first phase in 2009 (which was planned) :-)

at the new terminal this week. What Chaos! The parking is a total joke. Not enough and everyone was driving down the wrong track leading to more congestion. You would have thought they would have had people directing traffic as it's newly opened. Of course not. Had to wait in traffic for 30 minutes to pay to get out of the place, so had to pay an extra 5qr for the privilege of being stuck in traffic.

is it the entry fee for the arrivals section or is it the entry fee for the parking lot of arrival section?

Some cheese is needed to go with the whine?

2 Qatari Riyals, that is about a Quarter of US dollar, you need that much money for the car fuel to drive from Toyota Tower to the new arrivals building and go back, sheesh.

@ danisadoor - don't know what planet you live on but Doha residents do pay for their utilities....why should we pay for been dropped off at the airport...anylonger than 10-15 mins then fair call...but a drop off and you pay...GREED!

and as for abandoned vechiles you just tow them. Surely the authorities have a procedure where they are checking cars for parking tickets, if the car does not have the correct ticket it gets towed, it ain't rocket science.

Yep, I'm with Genesis on this one. Let the tightwad chimps park over the road and lug their suitcases across the road cos they are too lazy to walk to the footbridge! Nearly killed one last night when his case jackknifed halfway over!

to all those who shout greed, you don't even pay taxes here and the amount charged is minimal. Taking in consideration how small the interim facility is, I'd say raising the charging fee is a must to avoid overcrowding and those who abandon their cars at airport parking during their vacations.
