Parents tell police that daughter had been drink driving

A teenager has been banned from driving for a year after her parents called police to tell them she had been drink driving.
Shannon Downie, 18, had got behind the wheel after a night out in Aberdeen to give a friend a lift home despite getting a taxi back to her own house easier in the night.
Her parents witnessed what happened and were so ‘disgusted’ they called police, who after pulling her over found she was more than three times the limit, reports the Daily Record.
Downie appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Friday where she pleaded guilty to drink driving on December 2, was banned for a year and fined £400.
Her solicitor, Liam McAllister, told the court: ‘It was her own family who contacted the police in the first place, as they were so disgusted that she had acted in this way.
Sentencing the teenager, Sheriff Christine McCrossan said she had found herself in a ‘highly unusual set of circumstances’, the Press and Journal reported.
She said: ‘If your own family has brought this matter to the attention of the police then I am sure you are aware, as they are, how unacceptable this is in terms of public safety.’
Hats off to the parents – Did they do the right thing in your opinion ?
Brit,The Law is for the society, we are not for the law. If the humans improve their skills & judgement after a few more drinks police would be happy to increase the limit. Now it remains to see how accurate those people show their control at the wheels and would be able to convince the Govt to increase or remove the limit { one day } .......... Brit I support the victim ......... ........ ...... I support the truth ........... .... I support the innocence { the girl } ......
Mufti: You did miss some important words such as "senseless, nonsensical, insane, foolish, ridiculous, flawed, silly, crazy..." in your post.
This is interesting. Is MM suggesting that driving whilst under the influence is ok ?
So this means that she would say the same for a similar offense in Qatar
Don't you have anything , even a one liner for the parents or the brave girl or the traffic police or Liam McAllister ??
Mods, Correct Mufti, he needs your attention. Is he following the QL law ? ................ .....
Is there any law which prosecutes people for posting illogical and useless comments.
My pilots would come out & tell you that this girl was right & would have returned safe back to her home ........ ....... it is not the drinking it is your skill which needs to be focused by the society ......... everybody has different capacity ............... ......... Look at the military people ......... they would also support this brave girl .......
Mr "Philosopher": Driving under the influence of alcohol is a crime in almost all countries of the world and in some countries gets you in jail. Possibly, the government of these countries did not "consult" you for your "philosophical advice" before they imposed the laws. What a big mistake!
One can understand very well why you would want her as a neighbour. While she would be drunk, I guess you could have your own way with her. Just guessing!
I support he emotionally as common human being, would arrange her a lift if were able to do so being too far from her place, I wish her to be strong & be independent for her life. What would if a family starts reporting against each other ? ......... For example if we ask ..... is everything right at each & every police man's home ? ............... we know the answer .......... I am sad ........... at the parents act which was taken without any long term effects into account .................
At 18, She was comparatively safer in her own car than with a rogue - drunk taxi driver. Her parents would regret their act for their entire life. She did not cause any damage, she did not break any traffic signal, she was driving perfectly, above all she obeyed the police & stopped her car ......... as good girl as any neighbour for me ..........
A great act on the part of the parents. Their action though it may have been very difficult for them to take, may have saved many lives and property. Had the parents reprimanded her, she would have simply brushed it off saying that she was already 18 and was responsible for her actions. The arrest and a fine would probably send a clear message to the teenager of things she just can't do.
