Padded bras for girls of 8 !

People say that Kids are growing up quicker nowadays.

My question - Are parents and shops to blame ?

Matalan - a UK retailer is under fire for selling padded bras for girls aged 8.

Asda and Tesco have both axed kids' clothes in the past after complaints.

Campaigner Shy Keenan said: "It is morally wrong to exploit children this way. It puts them at risk."

Padded boob holders are good for 8 YO girls as this will help everybody in their class to tell them apart from boys.

I proposed a girl for marriage when I was 7 years old and she agreed :-P

I don't know where she is these days :-P

We didn't know what boobs are at that age though and well the above ruling is ridiculous....

We didn't even notice the difference between boys and girls at that age :O(

On a more serious note, do we use this peer pressure thing as an excuse nowadays.

Flippin heck...I didn't even know what boobs were when I was 8 years old!

is the specific age of the user written on the garment's tag the one it's meant for..?

i cant understand how did they know the bra was meant for an eight year old girl..

ok nomerci..dont have much of an idea on that..

but, i feel, its the parents who actually creat the market. if they dont buy, who can sell?

rishimba, they adjust the size to age. This is usually done with children's clothing.

EMC, I wasn't allowed to wear makeup till I was in my late teens. No questions asked.

It all depends on the parents to lay down the rules. Their priority should be to provide proper guidelines, rather than pandering to current tastes.

Brit, I shall extend this, not intending to hijack your thread, to nail varnish and glossy lipstick. The way some parents are 'painting' their girls is somehow tasteless.

Padded bras make your assets look bigger, not hide them.

"padded" bras are used to enhance the shape of the bosom. So really, flat chested young girls are wearing them to look maturer..

I don't think the shop or the parents are to be blamed. Actually it would depend on individual circumstances. Some girls grow much faster than others. If their breasts and nipples are showing as to caused them embarassment, I see no reason why they should not use padded bras? But if the parents buy it when it is not necessary or being put under pressure to buy it, then it I would blame the parents.

They are also doing a range of false beards for 8 year old boys, complete with a plastic razor, stick on razor cuts, false blood and vanilla flavor shaving foam.

blame it on the consumer. basically a degradation of society as a whole and nothing else

Oh my my... I wish I was 8 again.

When I was 8, I didnt enjoy anything like that.

8 year old boys, enjoy till the offer ends.

Anyways, all the fun apart, the shops are not to blame, shops are supposed to deliver all kinds of goods.

Its the customers fault who buy this kind of stuff for their offspring.

I agree with Qchris there is a lot more peer pressure out there; girls (and boys) are being picked on more and more for not having the 'in gear'.

Some parents pander to that. I would not; but then again my daughter was never into keeping up that way.

I can remember being 7 or 8 and for some strange reason wanting to wear a pair of tights ( don't ask me why) lol

I went and borrowed a pair of my sisters - my Ma caught me; never had a pair of tights ripped of so fast since:-)

Girls at 8?? and are they called parents?

By anonymous• 15 Mar 2011 16:16

I agree with you both. The only thing I can think of positive from this is that it may stop bullying....girls under peer pressure, haven't developed properly, getting teased at school....

Kids are fickle. Is the sexualisation of children wrong? Yes. Does it stop them teasing each other about puberty? Not really.

I am not saying these bras are being sold on the strength of demand from children, just trying to find some sense as to who even dreamed of marketing such a product....

"Commercialising" of their children is becoming the norm for some parents...entering them into pageants, musical contests. They don't realise that somewhere along the way their chldren lose their simple innocence. And that is too high a price to pay.

These parents need to understand that childhood is an important stage in the growing up process. "Sexualisation " of little children must be stopped and parents must be at the forefront of this fight.

Yes, the parents are to blame in the first instance. If some parents would not dress their little girls like pin ups, there would not be a market for things like that. On the other hand, the shops are furthering this by selling things like that. Question of ethics.

Shops are there to make money. They find a niche market and go for it.

so - would you not agree that it is actually the parents and not the shops to blame..

It is wrong and tasteless.
