Over 20 cars a day impounded
Violations against abandoned vehicles won’t be written off
Traffic violations registered on impounded and abandoned vehicles will not be written off.
This was stated by Lt. Col. Mansoor Ahmed Bakr who is in charge of the Traffic Department’s yard for these vehicles in the Industrial estate in an interview published in the monthly magazine The Police is with You and quoted in the local Arabic daily Arrayah.
He said that these vehicles are posing problems for the department because of the many procedures involved in disposing them of as scrap or selling them to auto workshops.
Owners of such vehicles do not bother to pay up the fines registered against them in spite of the six months’ time allowed by the department.
The number of vehicles impounded and moved to the scrap yard in 2011 was 7,448 which included 1,373 vehicles that were impounded in the month of May alone.
Vehicles impounded by the police are auctioned off on the basis of prices offered in sealed envelopes after the expiry of the grace period and completion of other formalities, he said.

"Violations against abandoned vehicles won’t be written off" is the headline. But I found the number of cars a day that get impounded the interesting bit in this story.
I have noticed 3 obviously abandoned cars near where I live. And I am hoping they are among the 20 impounded today.
i have 2 cars in my building's "parking space" altho formaly it's not. and they do look ugly and better off without them.

Totally agreed
I think the department should take up a massive drive to clear up such abondoned vehicles which are all over Doha. These vehicles are covered in dust and most look like scrap metal and look like have been here for many, many years. Such vehicles give an ugly look to Doha. The department should also conduct their checks on side streets and appartment parkings.
i wonder wen the auction take place
