OUCH...first my first traffic accident!! :(

Scarlett
By Scarlett

Dang it...my car is only a month old and some guy rear ended me at a round about tonight!! I mean, I was rather hard to miss...large off road vehicle, totally stopped so that traffic could clear enough to enter the roundie and WHAM!! At least the guy was really nice and even drove me to the police station..

Had to laugh tho...I get these two papers, all in Arabic, and have no idea what they say...and I'm supposed to do WHAT with them?? Luckily Desert Queen was close by and came to help me. I've also never heard of having to pay for stamps on the papers...oh well...

My poor car tho has a wounded bumper...guess the new is now off the car!!

Just had my first accident, when this stupid Filipino woman reversed into me while I was passing by. then claimed I had driven into her, she called her Nauseating aussie male friend, who started to argue with me, what a plonker.

Anyway luckly for me the police knew it was clear from the damage whom was to blame.

But got this paper work which I can't read, and I have to get some stamps, and phone Qatar insurance, then I will have to take it to get repaired, such a hassle.

I don't mind being called a beautiful car...been told I have a nice front bumper before! :) (the rear one needs a bit of work tho!!) Hey, haven't put on the decal yet, but will try to do that tomorrow..I love that one!! I think I need a few like we were talking about that night at the Silver Cafe...only then everyone would run into everyone else because they'd be reading my car!!

Drac does great with fasting during Ramadan as he can't go out when the sun is shining, so can't eat anyway!!!

Oryx..I had to to the police at Al Rayyan...and they were nice enough except the guy who takes the money..he was an azz when I was trying to find out WHY I had to pay for stamps..

Thanks once again everyone for the well wishes..and yes, I always thank God for keeping me safe..My guardian angel was working overtime yesterday!

I feel for you. Are you shaken up?! I have driven twice now into Doha and have yet to venture from Dukhan side further than Villagio/ Hyatt.

I think though that I'm still a menace through my sheer inexperience of driving Qatar style!

I wish newbies like me could have some sort of plate like a big feckoff 'I don't know what the guff I'm doing or where I'm supposed to go and WHEN- so please get the MF OFF MY ASS and stop peeping me' plate (although I think L or P has a much more catchy ring than 'F*** Off You're scaring the crap out of me.'

I saw some guy in a huge 4x4 doing the most amazing move the other day. It would have made me positively horny if we were playing on Daytona, rather than having two small kids in the back of my hire car whilst having a Dukes of Hazzard face off. Tw**.

I empathize greatly as my brand new SUV got a pretty big boo boo a couple of weeks ago. I was stopped at a light on C ring road and watched as the lady in front of me got cut off by a gentleman in a van. She gets out of her car and shouts and screams at him for a minute or so and then the light changed. Madam jumps back in her car and in her angry state, puts it in reverse and backs into me...KABOOM!!! We move the vehicles to the side and the police arrive..she tells them, in arabic, that I ran into her! Fortunately for me I have an arabic speaking colleage I was giving a lift to work with me. It's true when you get the first big bump on a new car, it's immediately just a car!

Makes me wonder if they have any new bumpers left for my car!!!

i agree.. that's what killing me as well... why I AM the one who has to run everywhere to get the simplest things done?? and why i have to pay for the stamps (even 12 qr!) and for the parts (i didn't pay it yet, as my car is less then 1 year, but as i understood from the Insurance Company, next year i have to be prepared to pay 20-50% of the parts)??

sorry for bringing it again, but i can't help it, have to share my canadian experience of the accident (the ONLY one in 12 years of driving in Canada!). The girl hit my car from behind. It was not a major accident... ALL i had to do is just to write down her plates number, her Insurance company name and Policy number and to call my Insurance agent. That was it. Next day the guy from my insurance came right to my office door with the Insurance car. He left me that car for 1 week and drove my damaged car away. Then 1 week later, he brought my fixed car back to my office door (have no idea where it was fixed, what has been replaced, and how much it cost) and drove the Insurance car away instead. All expenses were paid by the Insurance of the girl who hit my car. This was THAT simple.

Here I had at least 4 accidents during my 1.5 year of driving… 2 of them the guys hit me, 2 of them someone damaged my car while it was parked on the parking lot. And all these times I had to spend a lot of my time, energy and nerves to get my car fixed. Also.. WHY on the earth I have to go to Industrial area?? And I have to go there 3 (THREE!!) time for 1 accident! First time to get a quotation. Then to bring my car for fixing, then to pick up my fixed car!! W-H-Y???? I consider it as a kind of punishment!! but why??

At least Honda tries to provide some kind of service.. well… not always successful, but at least they try!! Last time, when my car still was not ready in 2 weeks (!!), they gave me to drive their car instead, and then they brought my fixed car to my house door… that’s how it must be every time!!

This is what I hate about the traffic accident/insurance system here - the victim of the accident has to jump through hoops and pay money to get anything done.

I was rear-ended in a similar accident not long ago. So then I have to take over an hour out of my day to go to the police station and be passed from desk to desk and pay QR12 for some stamps (a tiny amount, but wtf?), then take a couple more hours the next day to go to the other party's insurance company. Why can't it be done by phone?

And to top it all, when I get the car to a garage (taking yet more hours of my time) I'm told I'll have to pay 50% of the cost of the parts, cos that's how insurance works here.

So considering the hours I took out of my working days and the subsequent loss of earnings, the cost of 50% of the parts AND the QR12 for stamps, being the victim of someone else's poor driving costs a fortune.

So infuriating.
