Crackdown on eateries selling substandard food |
Law enforcement officials of the Rayyan municipality conducted 6,000 rounds of inspection of eateries and groceries during the first half of the current year, according to a statement made to an Arabic daily by the head of the food monitoring cell, Abdullah Mohamed al-Mansouri. Around 1,200kg of foodstuffs, besides 13,000 canned food items, were ordered to be confiscated on the spot since they were not fit for human consumption. A sum of QR265,000 was collected as fine from the outlets. Most of these inspections were conducted at random without any prior notice, said al-Mansouri. He said the municipality had a team of 26 male and four female law enforcement officers besides 10 veterinary doctors and 11 agricultural engineers. There is need for many more employees because of the rapid increase in the number of groceries and eateries. He called upon the public – Qataris and expatriates – to get in touch through the hotline (44266666) whenever they notice any irregular or hazardous activities to the health. |

@ s_isale,what's up bud? having a bad day today?! boss giving you a hard time?! can't stand the heat?!...something seems to have rattled your cage today!...the article very clearly states while quoting the head of the concerned dept. that "MOST" of the inspections were conducted without prior notice,MOST as opposed to ALL,makes sense? meaning, some establishments were given prior notice,am i correct?...
As for visting all the groceries in town,i haven't & didn't mention that i have but i have been to quite a few searching for fruit & vegetable that is "fit for human consumption",just because your standards are lower than mine doesn't mean i have to lower my standards to suit yours now does it?!...relax bud! if you're happy with the general standard of grocery shops in this town, good for you,but kindly do NOT expect everyone else to feel the same...please & thank you!...
it is done without notice anyway. gadarene seems to have visited all the groceries in the country to come to the conclusion he mentions above.
this is a great news ^_^
It should be done without prior notice..:)
good question TB! Who was forewarned?
tip of the iceberg if you ask me...based purely on the quality of fruit & vegetable they stock, half the stores in this town ought to be fined or shut or both...
"Most of these inspections were conducted at random without any prior notice" said al-Mansouri.
So who was warned in advance to give them time to hide any potential problems? And more importantly... WHY?
