No, not really I do enjoy a good joke and some of "blonde" jokes are really funny and I enjoy but the railway track joke is pathetic.

That's my advice. They usually have little or nothing to contribute to a conversation and they tend to shout a lot.

Howard Keel

I just looked him up too and forgot how many HUGE musicals he had actually starred in. That American I was chatting to last night is a disgrace to his county's musical history :P

Howard Keel died in 2004 at the tender age of only 85. It is sad to see such a fine talent taken at such a young age. Life can be so unfair!

I happen to be 14 years younger than my sister and 10 years younger than my brother so, apart from music and films etc I may have liked I also had my sister and brother's music going on around the house.

Add to that my parents being about 40 when I was born and both of THEM being the youngest in THEIR families, and you have me listening to some pretty ancient music hall stuff as well. Family get togethers were always a sing song round the piano when my parents invited their older brothers and sisters round. :D

I think this is why I'm always surprised that people 10 or 20 years younger than me don't have any idea about what was going on beyond what THEY are familiar with.

Did their families not have favourite 'old' films, singers or whatever to share?

I know that guy you were talking to last night who had never heard of Howard Keel. That guy is an uncultured American moron. He couldn't even find the United States on a world map. Don't worry, everyone knows who Howard Keel is. Well I do anyway, as I just did a google search on him.

Anyway, you are only 45 yourself so I am surprised YOU know who Howard Keel is!

I was MORTIFIED last night when I mentioned Howard Keel and the show Seven Brides for Seven Brothers to a person in their mid forties. He had never heard of either Keel or the show.

I did a bit of quick mental arithmatic and for the first time in my life realised that there are a LOT of things and people I remember that most I speak to will have no idea who or what I'm talking about.

Kind of funny but also a bit depressing too! :D
