New Restrictions on Some Bars
It seems the powers that be have slapped new opening hours on some F&B outlets. If the bar/restaurant is not part of the main building of the hotel, they cannot now serve alcohol until 5 pm. (Though there might be exemptions if a meal is ordered...)
Does anyone know what the real rules are?
Are they new - or is this just an implementation of an existing unused ruling?
What will this do to the Friday Brunches?

Completely agree IanW. Clear rules available to all would be appreciated. None of us mind the ID checks (unless you forget it!) and would be quite happy to have it enforced on restaurants as well....
That said, there are issues with clarity for many different areas of life and business in Qatar.
As explained many times before(http://www.qatarliving.com/node/2364470)
, there is no rules on Alcohol consumption because as per Qatar constitution & legislation sell of alcohol should be prohibited in public
Now I think any regulation being introduced in those establishments is to curb any further controversy among the locals
Please post it n Drinkersliving forum, instead of spreading into all,
Dear Mod - I wish you were as quick to remove spam etc as you were to delete a simple question designed only to promote debate.
radoha - I too do not advocate drinking or drunkenness on the streets of Qatar - but Admirals Club (for example), within the grounds of the Ritz Carlton and with ID checks etc., is hardly 'in the streets' yet is one of the outlets affected by the 'new' rules.
I'm just a bit baffled by the apparent frequent changes to the rules on serving alcohol here. I'll happily comply with them - if I know what they are. :-)
It always used to be like this, before things were 'relaxed'. It won't affect brunches. I remember being stuck in limbo many times between the end of brunch and opening time!
I guarantee no one will know the real rules, as with most things here, we live on word of mouth. I assume its the implementation of an existing ruling though.
Not an ideal time to do it, with the Pearl disaster still ongoing.
Not sure what the rules are as I don’t drink alcohol. but as for your last 2 questions.... is alcohol a major part of Friday brunches? isn't it a bit early to be intoxicating yourselves?
I think Qatar attitude towards tourism could be better but I have a large amount of respect for them because they are keeping hold of their culture and principles.
Why should they start introducing alcohol in to their streets if it against their religion, culture and principles?
I am from the UK and have seen what alcohol does to people - the streets end up being full of drunken people, staggering around, fighting, vomiting, swearing... why would Qatar want that?
