New airport will be noise-free
by Rabin Gupta
Doha • The New Doha International Airport (NDIA), slated to be operational from next year, will ensure residents in the surrounding areas will not be affected by noise pollution caused by aircraft take-offs and landings.
A ‘noise modeling' exercise has been carried out which will see aircraft make landing approaches over the sea on to the runway while take-offs will be directed toward the Gulf before changing course to the path the plane is headed. Comparisons of noise levels that would be generated from the NDIA against levels of the existing airport showed a significant improvement in noise emissions.
This has been attributed to the location of new runways east of the airport. As a result, the possibility of developed parts of Doha being affected by aircraft noise has been significantly reduced. An official associated with the project, said: “Eliminating noise levels over residential areas means the NDIA will have met all environmental requirements." Studies have shown exposure to excessive loud noise can cause changes in blood pressure and wreak havoc on sleep and digestive patterns. In fact, the EU considers living close to an airport to be a contributing factor to coronary heart disease and strokes. The EU has found 20 percent of the European population is exposed to aircraft noise levels considered to be unhealthy and unacceptable.
Aircraft noise can also have negative effects on a child's health and development. A study in Los Angeles found children living near LAX suffered from higher blood pressure than those residing elsewhere while in Germany, a separate study found children living near Munich's airport suffered from elevated activity of the nervous and cardiovascular systems. Children can lag behind classmates in reading by two months for every five decibel increase above what is considered to be normal noise levels. Yet another study found children had reduced reading comprehension skills because of the high decibels put out by aircraft engines.
Several pollutants directly related to aircraft can be found around airports which can cause cancer, asthma, liver damage, lung disease and depression.
The pollutants found to be responsible constituted diesel exhaust, carbon monoxide and leaked chemicals.

well i cant wait until it starts because those stupid jets that take off towards the end of the day wake me up all the time... and some times they shake my house...
even if the noise is just reduiced... i would be happy

just hanging out and watching dvd's with helen keller... kind of a quite night.
that all aircraft are being asked to commence their final approach early and "glide in" for the last 5 miles or so.
This will apply to all airlines and failure to do so will result in more expensive landing fees.
As it will be over water any loss of life is expected to be minimised and extra maritime craft are being purchased. Tenders for those boats are currently under scrutiny.
now that was a joke.....
BTW: my joke refers to the topic heading. "New airport will be noise-free"

Nope, I never joke. Even when I'm joking.
Take it easy, your joke didn't look like one and I was clarifying just in case you didn't know environmental standards.

Noise free in environmental terms, doesn't mean silent skdkak, according to the UN's Environemtnal impact policy it refers to being below a certain decibel level.

It sure can have less noice but sure will have noice.
For a noice free airport... we need to travel in hydrogen filled ballons.
