Qatar will make February 18 every
year the “National Day of Sports”,
HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and
Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz
al-Kuwari said yesterday. Al-Kuwari
said: “HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh
Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has
approved the date as the National
Day of Sports in Qatar and we
hope that the event will help our
young people to form the habit
of sportsmanship and also bring
about a respect for culture and the
environment as we will be having
many activities based on these
themes.”

Has the dates been changed? Wasnt it the second tuesday of February every year?

Defeats the original purpose of the holiday which was that companies would set up a day of sports activities for employees.

On a Saturday this isn't going to happen or at least if it is, attendance will be way lower than if it was on a Tuesday.

I don't see the problem changing it to saturday.

Given that the 18th is a Saturday, it would seem a little pointless having it on that date.

I assumed that the whole point of having it on a Tuesday rather than on a set date was so that with it being in the middle of the week, people wouldn't be tempted to just take a long weekend, hence defeating the purpose of the holiday in the first place.
