Great news for tennis fans in Qatar. Having just seen the worlds best female players, next year you'll be treated to the best mens players.

DOHA, Qatar – Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will open the 2009 ATP season by playing at the Qatar Open.

Qatar tennis federation president Nasser al-Kholiafi says Andy Murray and Andy Roddick will also take part in the hard-court tournament, which begins Jan. 5.

The tournament in Doha is one of three to start the 2009 tennis season, along with the Brisbane International in Australia, and the Chennai Open in India.

I hope they sell tickets at the gate with seats available. The tickets in the sony ericksson event were cheap and so people bought them and did not show up and so there were many vacant seats and people being turned away at the gate.

In previous years tickets for each days play only become available on each day of the competition. You just go down to the tennis complex in the morning and get them. They are free.

I don't think brit's implying that he wasn't planning on coming. But the fact is that he isn't any more.

Nadal and Federer seems pretty likely though, barring injury of course. Federer won the tournament in 05 and 06, and it's grown in stature every year.

Normally the tickets are free. You just need to pick them up early on the day from the tennis stadium.

Unfortunately the "free seating" arrangement means the stands are a complete mess. Even when people paid for tickets at the recent WTA event things were pretty chaotic. It's such a shame cos it ruins what are otherwise very good sporting events.

I think they will not come. Qatar has delayed their start money payment for three months.

But it is not good for me as I will return to Doha on 4th of Dec. So I will not get the good tickets this time it seems.

i don't think its free since the top tennis players will take part. Isn't it nice? And besides, its better to have tickets to avoid over-crowding.

cheers,

paul

I think the tickets were only for the WTA super 8's event. Now it will be the same as before.

Is it still the same, free entry or will it be tickets this time?

How about Novak Dyokovic? I'm a big fan of the Serbians.

I should buy a ticket as early as possible! ;o)
