Muntaza Health Center & Rafa Polyclinic

By consciouseffort

I am a regular visitor of Muntaza Health Center & recently (approx 2/3 months before) I found about my pregnancy. Since then I am regularly monitored after every 3 weeks with an appointment. Now the problem is since last 1 month I am having left side pain in my throat which feels like something is stinging continously from inside. For 3 weeks it went on like this & I went to doctor to help me overcome this but no medications. I was asked to eat a lot of bread so that if anything is sticking inside it would come out naturally or later on they would refer me to some specialist. As an obedient patient :) I did what I was asked to do but with no improvement. The worst thing is if I talk for 5 mins continously, I end up coughing very badly & especially when I lie down at night for sleep, after two mins I start coughing which keeps on continuing after every two to three hours whole night & all I can do to save myself is to keep water handy & drink a glass of it to prevent this uncomfortable situation. On the fourth week, I started getting pain in my left side ear too & 11th Feb 09 I had appt with Muntaza again & told them about the whole story. This time the doctor saw this & said everything is 'normal' I asked her to check the swelling or maybe their is some infection but she clearly said there is nothing. Next day I went to Rafa Polyclinic for my satisfaction & their I came to know that I have developed tonsils from throat infection. When I told her about a day's before meeting with Muntaza doctor, she said they might be afraid of giving you any medication during pregnancy. I was very furious but tried to control & took medications prescribed by her. Upon further enquiry, she explained that when we eat something good it benefits baby too but if we have any sort of illness or infection it should be treated immediately too as this might harm the baby as well. Now after listening to the whole theory I consumed the medications as per prescription. But again no relief. I have to see them again or if anyone over here recommends some other clinic or hospital too where I can have ultrasound too by a lady doctor, I would be very grateful.

Regarding the whole story I do not understand how to take this matter upto some officials & compalin about this negligence which has caused me so much of pain & still it is there. What I dont understand that why we are paying for our Government health cards if they cannot take care of our problems & we have to end up running for private clinics only as our last resort.

Kenalog does wonders..... it is a steroidal cream so take care but you will only have to use it a few times if you are now on antibiotics.

Hope you feel better soon, for you and baby :)

Thanx all for taking time out & replying & suggesting remedies. I am, ofcourse, taking note of all these to avoid further complex situation. Yesterday after 5:00p.m I went to Muntaza again & saw one doctor & described to her all the situation that I wrote here too. After hearing all this & examining me she said ' Whos is that Stuuuuupid doctor who said you cannot take anitbiotics or medicines during pregnancy ', it was very funny, I didnt name anyone but simply listened to her. She said that the infection of tonsilitis has spread & its showing underneath your lips & inside the cheeks. She suggested few medications which she said are pregnancy safe:

1. Amoxicillin - Antibiotics (after every 8 hours)

2. B-Complex (once daily)

3. Kenalog for blisters (twice daily)

4. Panadol (twice daily)

5. Oraxine - Mouth Wash (twice daily)

I have started using these all because, this infection has made me slightly feverish which they cannot detect with the thermometer & it has started to produce foul smell also from the mouth which is very embarrasing for me as I am used to brush thrice or twice daily (depends upon the time). I hope I get well soon & hope to have a healthy child in future.

Regarding this blood sugar level, they checked previously & the related tests & claimed them to be normal.

This results from the heat within our bodies.

Here's how to fight this:

Get a cotton swab or a cotton buds better, dip in a margarine or butter, then rub slowly until the white blisters go. Do this twice a day for 2 days, it will subside if not totally gone.

I find this very effective.

Just be careful with antibiotics conscious..... they sort of bully you into taking them here. If it is viral it will take its course :)

Hope you feel better soon, there is nothing worse than being pregnant and sick.

Viral or bacterial infection comes at the next stage, Muntaza is not even ready to write in my file that I have some infection :) which is really irresponsible but funny too. I'll try this remedy from blue ocean too to see if these home remedies could help & save me from taking any heavy medication. Today morning I found something else too underneath both upper & lower lips I found 6/7 small needle size cuts & something white has also started appearing on those cuts, looks like this throat problem is getting serious :(

If they gave you a throat swab and found that the infection is viral they would be irresponsible to give you antibiotics as it will do nothing. If it is bacterial and not going away on its own then after some time antibiotics will be prescribed.

The overuse of antibiotics is terrible here. Also, antibiotics in babies (even before they are born) can cause their teeth to yellow and help build up antibiotic resistance so if you really need them, they may be innaffective.

They say , nowadays there are even antibiotics which are ''pregnancy safe'' . You should consult a good ENT as Andrews said.

Being in a state of pregnancy, you should be really careful with the medication. Light med may have the same adverse effect on the baby like the strong med. Most of the doctors would advice to let your immune system work on it. No med much as you could to avoid any adverse implication on the baby.

However, this does not exempt the Health Center from not giving you the proper diagnosis. You should have been informed that you are incubating some infection in your throat that leads to tonsilitis.

Tell you what... I had the same case of throat infection before, similar to tonsilitis but my EENT doctor diagnosed it as Pharyngitis - swelling throat, painful ear, coughing, etc. I had the right med i shud say cos i was fine on the second day and i got her go signal to take the flight on the third day. She said i can not fly on that condition. This was the first time I had it, some 3 yrs ago back home in the Philippines.

I was on the same condition for the second time last week but decided not to see any doctor as I heard so much. I just had lots of water (lukewarm) with lemon but the best is the Oregano Tea (Zahtar Tea), lukewarm too + lots of Mandarin Orange which is in abundance and cheap at the moment in the supermarkets. whenever feeling itchy throat, bite some Mandarin orange. I had a flu and coughing, so i took the over-the counter med called Panadol Extra. But i do not advise to take Panadol ya? You must consult your doctor FIRST.

Keep Zahtar Tea (lukewarn in a flask) beside you at night and whenever the cough strikes, take 8 LITTLE SIPS. Little sips ease down the itchiness in the throat, big gulps do not much. REMEMBER 8 LITTLE SIPS or until the cough died down. + SLEEP EARLY. The best way to treat cough is SLEEP EARLY. Sleeping early conditions our immune system in order to fight well the nasty virus .

Hope I was able to help. Get well soon consciouseffort.

Cheers!

P.S. Hope you got your part-time accountant now. Dont worry about me, ya? am fine at the moment. smiles...

i think you meant you have developed tonsillitis rather than tonsils... but anyway, usual treatment for that is antibiotics (Augmentin for example), but i dont think it is advisable for you since you are pregnant. in the future, however, you may choose to have your tonsils removed, some people do..
