Mugabe Stocks up in Carrefour

Amazing but true...

Robert Mugabe and his entourage spent Monday evening shopping at Landmark.

"Uncle Bob" and his people were seen filling shopping trollies in Carrefour before moving on to the Virgin Megastore and a pharmacy.

Sadly my colleague who witnessed it all was unable to snatch a photo. It would have been a best-seller in the world's media markets. Mugabe shops till he drops whilst shelves are empty back home and people are dropping dead from Cholera.

If anybody did get a picture it's worth a whole lot of cash.

If you can sleep at night whilst defending a man who has pushed millions of people to the brink of starvation, then perhaps you share the morals of Mugabe.

What is happening in Zimbabwe is an important example of the "bull$shit" happening in the world and it needs to be stopped.

Mugabe has stolen elections. In the process of doing so he had murdered, tortured and jailed members of the opposition and their supporters.

I visited Zim when it was one of the most successful African nations, with a booming economy and a world-class farming industry. Now, thanks to Mugabe's outdated and dogmatic policies, the country can't even feed its own people.

The food stores in Harare have empty shelves. I have a friend who lives there who has to queue up all day to buy bread. And that's on the good days when there is any bread to buy.

So, I'm pretty pi$$ed when my friend tells me he has seen Mugabe filling many trollies to overflowing with the riches stacked high on Carrefour's shelves.

r7 - I'm sure the people of zimbabwe and all the people forced to leave the country as they were threatened with death feel something like this IS remotely important. I have many friends who had good lives there and were forced to leave and now have nothing...they had successful farms and their workers were well paid and happy. Now the workers who mugabe claimed to care so much about have no jobs, no food and are beaten for voting for change. Just because it is not important o you does not mean it is not important to others.

I spoke to Robert and asked him why he was buying so much when his people were starving. He assured me that he was only buying food for his people and is planning to distribute it to the poor when he gets back to Zimbabwe.

Did he pay cash or credit?

Did he push his own cart?

The best place Mugabe can afford to shop is Carrefour?? That's sad.

UkEng - I don't have a problem with him shopping - I have a real problem with him being allowed to attend international conferences and freely allowed to enter here. He LOST the election in his home country and tortured and killed people so that when it came time for a re-vote - which shouldn't have happened in the first place - that people were too scared to vote against him. And so his opposition said he would not run in an election which wasn't free and fair....and now they struggle to find a solution. But after this all the UN still recognizes him as a leader. How can that possibly be right??? Plus his list of crimes against humanity should mean that no country allows him access - he wants to destroy his country and keep all the remaining wealth - let him stay locked in his country where he can not get his luxuries...as they simply are not available.

OO Oryz my dear I have similar thoughts for him.. However .. what puzzles me is that he has cunningly got away with it.. He gets invited to all International events.. Is it because his country has no oil that we are not bothered..

Folks, for those of you who think its wrong for him to be out shopping while his nation is starving! keep in mind that there are many people in your country starving too! Also just think of him as a rich citizen not a rich leader of a nation! after all rich people do shop and I am sure in place like qatar rich people pass by the thousands of people every day that made their azzs rich! I wonder how many of those rich people are putting food in their nations mouths?

I am always excited to go to sleep! In anticipation of the new experience I will find awaiting me.

Ok Stork.. Yes there is problem in his country we all know that he is making his people suffer we all know that, however the international community has accepted him otherwise he would not be attending an international conference.

But if he wants to go shopping or wonder on the Corniche what is the problem??

The only reason Mugabe travels to these conferences is because it lends credibility to his vicious regime.

He lost the election but remains in power. Through a mixture of corruption and vengeance he has caused a completely unnecessary famine that leaves millions hungry and is destabilizing the surrounding nations. Where once he might have been seen as an African hero, he is now just another dictator, crushing the peasants to maintain his luxurious life.

No one else is happy to be seen with Mugabe in their country. Allowing him into Qatar is a mistake. You can't have him wandering freely around Doha without people saying that you endorse him as an international leader.

He should be locked up for what he's done to his country.

i dont see any problem with mugabe shopping. is he the only leader who let his people surfer and yet still travels and shop? why point finger at one person if all of these so- called leaders are unfair to their people?

The UN should be slated for letting him attend and Qatar for letting him into the country...I note how it wasn't really in the press here when they mentioned heaps of the other countries his name wasn't mentioned - only when I did an online search did I find articles.

was he here?

What I want to know is why they let him in here - I thought they were selective about who could enter. Apparently not...

Nice to know a guy who is willing to let his nation starve, kill and terrorize people who won't vote for him and generally destroy his beautiful country still seems to find enough cash to travel around the world.
