Move for Professional and Career Growth

Has it ever dawned on you as you go about the daily grind that you want to do more in your job but you're limited to do so? Has it ever happened to you when you try to maintain your being PRO-ACTIVE and yet your Superior forbids you from doing so? Have you ever experienced being cut-off in mid-sentence as you reply to your superior's question? Have you ever felt belittled in front of your colleagues? Have you begun to lose your self-esteem because you are merely relegated to the task of just calling the teaboy for coffee and looking for his lighter and cigarettes? Have you ever experienced being faulted for everything even if what you have given has no flaw at all and yet your boss seem to find a minute detail (as minute as a speck of dust) to point out to you smugly?

Having experienced being an Executive Assistant for so long back in the Philippines with the full trust of my previous employers, I have performed multi-tasking jobs and carried on dual positions. I was expecting that being hired by a Multi-national company based in Qatar will be much more challenging and an avenue for my professional and career growth.

I was wrong.

For two and a half years, I have endured the treatment of my boss and still served him the best way that I could. I clipped my wings and just waited for whatever mundane task he would assign me. Worse, I have been receiving offers from other companies here and abroad but I have turned them down. I was thinking that because I have a few months left of my extended contract, I would rather wait it out and continue to work with the company I am in.

However, it seems that I will be one of the persons who will be laid off a month from now, as I have been informed in advance by a trusted source.

I have no bitterness nor regret. Perhaps, this is my answered prayer because God sees the pain in my heart as I am being treated the way I am inspite of my many accomplishments in the past which are not hidden from my boss since he was the one who interviewed and hired me from Manila.

I don't know what lies ahead. I enjoin you to pray for me and the many others out there who suffer the same fate.

To those of you like me, I am one with you in these moments of uncertainty and anxiety. We can make it through this life.

Let me console you as I console myself with these lines....

"When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. The Will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you."

Have a blessed Monday!

TODAY IS MY SECOND DAY IN MY NEW JOB!!!

I received the offer at around 5:00 p.m. last Sunday. a few minutes after, my Boss and I talked together with our Personnel Manager..I cried tears of joy, gratefulness and mixture of sadness for leaving my boss. I told him that I would surely miss him. All the support he extended to me during that life changing moment has made me see him in a different light. It has more than made up for all the pain he caused me in the past.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SHARED MY DOWN MOMENTS WITH ME HERE IN QL. IT IS ABOUT RIGHT THAT I SHARE MY MOMENTS OF JOY WITH YOU.

THANK YOU QL FOR EVERYTHING! THANK YOU TO MY NEW-FOUND FRIEND WHO TOOK THE TIME TO REQUEST MY CV FROM ME AND RECOMMENDED ME.

I OWE IT TO HER. I OWE IT TO QL. I OWE IT TO ALL OF YOU.

MORE POWER TO QL!!!

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

I am glad that you like my poems. Thank you for encouraging me. I had been pre-occupied with this employment matter for quite some time and haven't taken again the time to write.

Gathering strength and insights from what I have gone through in the past few days, I shall try to capture them in the next piece that I will write.

Today has seen so many defining moments. The unexpected happened. I went to one manpower agency which asked me to undergo an interview this morning. The interviewer, who for the first time (according to her colleagues) was running late. She came around 15 minutes past the designated time - apologetic and remorseful that this morning of all mornings, she got caught in a traffic jam. As we were having our conversation, my mobile kept on ringing. When the interview ended, I immediately called the number appearing in my missed calls. It turned out that the person on the other line is the Filipina whose email, requesting me to forward my CV, I just saw this morning. She saw my classified ads herein QL. Since I was near her office, I was told to come for the interview.

Behold! The position available is one that I have been longing for - having similarities with the job I loved most back home. I was told that I would be given an offer letter. The interviewer even quipped that "QATAR LIVING IS REALLY GOOD". Yes, indeed! QL gives opportunities to people like me who would have gone through the rigors of hopping from one building to another in search of a job.

Had the interviewer for the manpower agency arrived on time, I wouldn't have been able to drop by that office and missed the opportunity.

When I arrived back at the office, I was praying that my boss would already notify me if I'm included among those who would be laid off from the project or not. Surprisingly, after my prayers were said, he calle dme to his office. He informed me that I will be laid off from the project but that he is highly recommending me for a post in the regional office that our company will be setting up here in Qatar beginning on April 1st.

I asked what if I find another job? He said that I can be transferred under new sponsorship. Otherwise, if I find nothing, I have his word that I can be arranged for the regional office.

Indeed, God works in many ways!

"the darkest moment is always before dawn..." Indeed!

Virgo825, I just heard a useful quote for this situation:

I just finished my prayers before going to sleep and I lifted up everything to God, thanking Him for this answered prayer. I would like to hold on to my faith that everything will turn out right for the better.

Thank you heero for that explanation.

I bid you all good night. Tomorrow is another day. May we all be blessed with new beginnings.

virgo, you're lucky.

You hated the job, and now is the time to find a better one.

In Qatar, "opportunities" meant "fixing a previous employee's damages before he escaped from the company". Guess how many 'previous employees' were in that position since the beginning of opening a company...almost 1 per year (not counting the less-than-a-year ones).

I'll keep you posted on whatever shall happen next. It seems surreal that last time, I was chronicling the struggles of my sister in finding a job and I couldn't believe that it's my turn now.

I am hoping that you will also find happiness in your job. It seems quite interesting.

As for heero_yuy2, thank you for the warning about the lack of professional and career growth in Qatar. However, I still would like to believe that one can achieve it here where there are still so many opportunities that shall cater to such need for self-actualization.

In spite of everything, I still haven't lost hope, yet.

im praying for your condition and hopefully things will get better.im also praying for your boss that God will somehow enlighten him in his decision.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. The notice for lay-off hasn't been served to me, yet. But good thing that my friend advised me in advance in the hope that I will not be unprepared for the eventuality. At least, I am given time to look for other opportunities. I am excited about what shall lie ahead although sometimes I would have a nagging feeling of anxiety. Whatever happens, I look forward for the best things to come!

So, should any of you know of any opening in your respective office for an experienced Executive Assistant / Marketing Communications Officer, please send me a PM so I would know where I could send my CV. Equipped with more than 12 years of experience as such along with my skills on conceptualization of marketing and advertising materials, preparation of project feasibility studies, project presentations, events management, training and formulation of training modules , technical and creative writing and customer care service, you can be assured of my 101% best self!

Somehow, I am looking for a post that shall give me more responsibilities to bear aside from ordinary office administration tasks.

I hope that through Qatar Living, I will find my dream job!

Virgo, getting fired is not that bad a thing to happen, I know it sounds like stupid advice, but I speak from experience. I was fired once, I took 2 months off to do a course in soemthing new, and my next job I was earning twice my previous salary , then I left that too and now earning about 10 times hat I used to get for that job..think of it as being forced by fate to take a step which you were too scared to do by yourself..Best of luck...

This is the first time that I have received such treatment from my superior that's why it's kind of making me a bit sad but also a little bit excited as I look forward to what lies ahead.

I hope that those who are sharing the same predicament take courage and look at everything as God's way of making things better.
