More power to Permanent Recruitment Committee
DOHA: Qatar has made stricter rules for private companies to recruit foreign workforce in a bid to ensure that their rights are protected.
The Permanent Recruitment Committee has been given the power to ask companies applying for visas for foreign workers to provide proof of their financial standing and projects on hand.
They must also provide details of accommodation to be provided to a worker being hired, QNA reported yesterday.
The committee has also been authorised to clear visas for foreign workforce being hired in the government and quasi-government sectors.
The Cabinet has issued decision number 41 of 2011 amending two articles (4 and 7) of the Cabinet decision number 26 of 2003 regarding the setting up of the Permanent Committee of Recruitment.

Hmmmm... if they actually use these new powers, it could help prevent workers coming over and then not getting paid for months on end.
