Most of the fire in this country from short circuit because poor quality electric goods I don’t know there is any quality checking in this matter only we can do that next time b4 we buy any electric appliances please consider the quality.........
I found which shows the minister of interior on the site of the fire. So yeah the state is actually involved positively. I was in my car with this whole mess happened and Lakhwayya the SWAT police or smethn' acted fast in diverting trffic.
ok everyone RELAX... 1. Kansas sucks (im from New Jersey im an A$$hole :P) 2. If they actually had insurance then they are covered.. i dont think they have insurance specifically for fires, floods, hurricanes, tornados, aliens, and zombies. But im not sure. 3. If everyone is fine and noone is hurt then thats all that matters. 4. Everyone acts like the Qatari gov't is bad or something.. i mean they pay for EVERYONES bills thats in qatar living right now... so stop acting like they are Nazi's AND I do think they will help out them out... if not opening a new factory/company then atleast other jobs so they can support their families. But thats just my 2 cents xD

i saw there was so many tankers of the water n they was trying to control fire but they can't succes coz there was fired on morning but still evening there was fire so many polish n fire man was attended there but bad luck ....
wheen i saw the fire on the suk market then i was norvous coz suk is a main market 4 the foregioners.coz there we can get very very cheif things.now there is no more shopes so it is main problem 4 all foregionerssssss
Even over 10 years ago I got Renters insurance for my boss. You may have to call around a bit but of course their is insurance. Would we drive without insurance?
I've shopped there a number of times. . .it's dirt cheap, so I'm not as convinced of "all they profits" as you. . .but that's OK. Maybe someone who knows will chime in. . .I'm only assuming. . .
A buddy told me the fire had already been put out since last night. But there definetely aren't any losses in lives as I read in the paper that these are just rumors.
It's easy to say that they "should have had insurance". . .and I hope they did. But in reality I'm not convinced that they even had access to it. Fingers crossed that they did, but I can't imagine that they had huge policies - in terms of large enough to setup shop somewhere else. :(
The answer is the shop keepers should of had insurance. Especially the guy that just opened as he was in debt to the Bank, anywhere else in the world it would of been required. I was told even Renters should have fire insurance here as you will be held accountable if your rental villa burns down. I know their is Renters insurance but I was never aware of fire insurance. Imagine how safe the towers are if they can't put out fires on the ground!
These guys have worked long and hard to establish their fabric businesses, but they're not in a situation like we would be in the US or the UK where we would have insurance. . .so all their hard work just went up in flames - their means of supporting their families, gone.
The wealthy residents depend on the fabric souks to find the gorgeous fabrics for party dresses, to have their custom-made abayas made, etc - and now that resource is gone. It would be a win-win for the Emir to help out, and I do hope he will; I can't imagine that he'd turn a blind eye :)
the whole market area is sealed. looks like the shop will remain closed today also. only smoke is there no fire and the civil defense team is also here.
Is the fire out? Is it still burning? It looks like the block where Thai Noodles is/was - which businesses were destroyed? Did it actually burn the Diraa Souk? The Suq Asseiri?
Nothing happened to QL. its all same. The fire news and update were on QL all day with pics and clips. where as your 5guys went to interview them when the reporters were allowed to enter the scene after 3hours.
Now dont say that because i was there for first 4 hours not a single reporter was allowed to get in or interview any of the officials.
Its cool that Qatar Living didn't remove the link in cumbersome reply to the website that started to compete them!the guys there send people to cover the fire with 5 videos and intreviews with officials on fire fighting dept and police ... What happened to QL?
We have to have more fire extinguishers on walls at Soaq area to stop the fire from the begining when its small! that is what they will realise now!
Actualy, to answer Expat Sueno's comment, the government pays lots of attention to these things. There's a video uploaded on some other website that i found which shows the minister of interior on the site of the fire. So yeah the state is actually involved positively. I am heartbroken over the losses that the guys in the fabric souk have incurred. Does the Emir ever step in to help when catastrophes like these occur?
My friend was there and her friends car was almost engulfed by flames a fireman had to move it for her. It looks like its on the end of Souk Diera - the Marble Souk. Unfortunately their could be alot of smoke damage at surrounding stores.

And we all can pray 4 the poor shop keepers

Massive loss...
I have read yesterday in Arabic Speaking newspaper Al-Rayah that Al-Thaqafah Publishing House suffered heavy losses because of the fire.
It is said that 160 thousand titles of books were damaged.
it is labeled as a big cultural catastroph here.
What worsen things is the coincidence between the tragic event and the arrival of new books that day.
i saw there was so many tankers of the water n they was trying to control fire but they can't succes coz there was fired on morning but still evening there was fire so many polish n fire man was attended there but bad luck ....
Oh, no more shopping. What are you going to do with all your time? Poor sailendra.

All those cars with expired permits drive without insurance, Eve.
Even over 10 years ago I got Renters insurance for my boss. You may have to call around a bit but of course their is insurance. Would we drive without insurance?
,hope it won't happen again...
haha - yes, we're not in Kansas anymore :)
I've shopped there a number of times. . .it's dirt cheap, so I'm not as convinced of "all they profits" as you. . .but that's OK. Maybe someone who knows will chime in. . .I'm only assuming. . .
I've been here long enough, Kevin87, to know that we can't take things for granted here in Qatar. We're in Kansas anymore. . .
I'm sure business insurance (in general) is available. . .just wondering if these guys actually had it (or could afford it).
Oh, Lord, Eva, what a thought, a fire in a high-rise building in Qatar! May God have mercy.

Al Deera had a rich and a beautiful interior.
Its a big loss.
That was the only market where we find the special and expensive fabrics, Costly Abayas, wonderful collection of costly silk and many more Items.
Why should he?

I am heartbroken over the losses that the guys in the fabric souk have incurred. Does the Emir ever step in to help when catastrophes like these occur?
I just came from that arae. fire fighters art still trying to put off the fire.
tens of water tanks are lined up to feed the fire engines.
I just feel sorry for the poor asians working there. must be devistating for them

Does anyone know is it actually the marble souk or is it the shops right next door, that tend to stack too much stock in close quarters.
