More about our Managers.......
A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
The woman below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.
"I am," replied the woman, "How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far."
The woman below responded, "You must be in Management."
"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you are going and you have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."
When one reached to the height of such harrassments and exploitation from Managers then he/she should leave job and start his own enterprise, to demonstrate ones own leadership quality and a new model of management like Ambanis and Tatas.
In general, I agree with typhoon and GOJ, this all happens in current operating systems.
However, the Top management rely heavily on the their Senior Management Team to run the operations to deliver the BEST results, while least bother HOW they could do it.
I had one too many this evening! I love QL for last 5 years!
Blue Bull - Did you just wake up or did you have one to many this evening
Hahahahahahaha. But doesn't matter to us at all.
Agree cent per cent ..
What it takes to do a job will not be learned from Managers and management courses. It is principally a matter of experience, the proper attitude, and common sense — none of which can be taught in a classroom... Human experience shows that people, not organization, Managers or management systems, get things done.”
Molten Metal - Well not just a kick but they should get a lot worse then that and be held accountable and sent to the sites more often and not be just seating at the office sipping tea and then just passing on information to the top guy that this manager has got from his doodle at the site
Some companies do have a vision, a code of ethics, A HSE policy, etc, etc but that is mostly to make the company look good for the auditors. When jokers and clowns in the name of mangers get in they play havoc with all the set practices and procedures, turn and twist things around to show the top guys that it is a part of new ideas, etc and start to fill the organization with their own relatives and countryman trying to make their seat safe and not really thinking about the welfare of the company or its workers
US and UAE have similar business issues, highly passionate people to become rich quickly without morals and ethics.
Borrow huge funds from banks and through public bonds then declare bankrupt and ask Government to bail out.
Such a great way to mint money.
Good one GOJ very aptly said.
Companies without a vision and strategy, poor governance won't know where they would be in next 5 years. Their prime aim is to make profits as much as possible and then run away with bank/people's investments.....the worst thinking
I suggest management should be given more holidays .. just an attempt to make them feel tired of taking rest and get them to work a few weeks in a year ..atleast.
Wearing a suit and a tie to the office is fine and so is driving that nice big car provided by the company but when he is reminded of getting some business he comes up with excuses like recession, market slowdown, oil prices are falling and anything and everything to save his ars*
Nice One!!
loved it .....
Read again after a while...funny but so true for most of us in many situations.. ((:
