mob mentality

By Renee

I’m flattered that you mentioned me in your thread PM.

I am just expressing me opinion and explaining why I (and maybe some other people) are hesitant to post much these days.

>>You must be kidding….your lips are flapping constantly on here. I really have to say I disagree with this line.

I can tell you the reason why people get so defensive and agitated on here PM.

There are two groups in Qatar Living.

1. The regulars/ superiority—surely I don’t have to give names, as you all ready know who you are. The ones that have friends in QL and no matter what these friends say or do, you will never criticize them- that would make you unpopular, and we wouldn’t want that. I’ve never seen any of you pull each other up on something that offends others.

2. The minority/ people with a different perspective—who get picked on for their poor English skills, their different opinions and the ones who get ‘ganged’ up on by the superior group.

With comments from people like jauntie who say that hashims post should never have been created. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU TO SAY JAUNTUE. You do not own this site. Why comment if you’re SO offended by it? No one asked you to start flapping those lips did they?? People are offended by what xena said but they should except it and move on right???????? Well, why should they?? Because you said??

The sad part PM is that you won’t admit that the superiors have their little groupie connections, make jokes at others expense and have taken over this site. I could find all these threads, but it would take me hours and I’m sure we all know the goings on about it already. Wouldn’t you say? You know how many people don’t write PM as the superior have this ‘I know it all ‘ attitude. Help me god if they disagree with you, your history on here.

The attitude of many regulars on here is pure arrogance as they have ‘friends’ who stick up for them no matter what they say--hashim had every right to express his opinion even if you don’t agree with him people.

Hashim don’t let them get to you; keep fighting for beliefs and don’t change yourself to fit into the ‘mob’ of QL.

there are some and there are others.

But i believe the others are more than the some.

Only advantage is that 'some' have a lod voice and sometimes reason as well.

I guess I'm the one who's always on the other end of many people's poles :P

But the ones on my side are having a party! Everyone's welcome ^_^

I DID think Oryx was insensitive with her comment and it was inflamatory - I guess that's just her way, her sense of humour, but she's an intelligent lady and should have realised it was bound to cause a ruck in here.

Having said that, most QLers know how she 'speaks' when typing and most who do just let it be and probably simply considered it as just a 'throw-away line. Obviously there are some who are unused to her manner.

I have no idea if she took that into consideration when she joked about the Quran.

On the bright side, I've always found Jewish jokes about the Bible to be very amusing! I guess, at the end of the day, it's all down to the sensitivies of the individuals concerned.

really don't enjoy seeing bashing from any point of view...would be so much nicer if questions were asked in a logical, nonconfrontational way and it would be so much easier to answer them that way. BREATHE.....

And yes...hubbies do have a way of making you think before you type...probably drive mine nuts...ahem...

I have to admit that I read some of these comments and I catch myself getting a little peeved. The bashing on ALL sides irks me. But I prefer to take a breath before putting my first thoughts in writing (which is a good thing (lol) - just ask my hubby!!!). And then when I get back to the thread - everyone has moved on to the next topic. lol

nothing like trying to walk/type on eggshells and actually get a point across. Doesn't happen. Too many thin skinned individuals with a definite chip on their shoulders just waiting to be knocked off with the slightest word or phrase.

When you do post, however, you've always been very dipolmatic in all areas...and with a very logical mind behind what you said. So, please, go ahead and post away....and don't feel the need to defend your position is what you said is what you meant to say.

Why do you let it bother you so much? This is just a public forum - one of thousands on the web. And if it is so bothersome to you why do you continue to log on? You have a choice here - you can participat in one of the social activites and meet these people in person (who knows - you might even like them), you can forget QL exist and fill your time with something else, log in and read the comments and accept it for the entertainment that it is, or you can continue to allow your anger to make you unhappy. Life is way too short to be bothered by such trivial stuff and if you are honest with yourself you will admit it doesn't matter one lick what people on this site think or say anyway. Their opinion and comments do not change your life in any way so let it go.

For what it's worth I think the majority of regular contributors on this site do not set out to offend with their comments and are truly suprised when something they write brings out such strong and negative feedback and while I know a few of them I am definitely not a part of the gang.

For me I hesitate, on occasion, to contribute - not because I think the "regulars" will verbally beat me bloody but because the "others" will take offense at something I unwittingly said and I don't have the time or energy to defend or explain it. Especially when QL history shows at that point I cannot say anything that will explain or defend it to the satisfaction of the offended party anyway.

renee..join us on an outing sometime...make friends instead of enemies..much more fun that way. Jauntie is an extremely nice and fun person..in fact one of the nicest I've met anywhere. Not judgemental and one heck of a good laugh, most times at herself! So..come join the fun and perhaps it would change your views of some of the folks here in QL to know then personally.

Come on Renee ... let it drop. There is more in life than picking on people on the public forum. If you are Samya-UK ... (i remember talking to you in the past), why dont you just have some nice conversation with people here. You seems a very nice person.

I met Jauntie in the dhow trip ... and become friend with her. Is that made me as a part of the 'group'? Life in Doha is 'lonely' for some people, you should turn up in our outing and make friends.

What do you think? :-)

By Scarlett• 20 Jan 2008 20:15
Scarlett

so fired up to write something like this..why not come on as your REAL self instead of pretending to be someone you are not. I don't believe your original persona was ever blocked, so why not be yourself and let everyone know who you truly are..would make a lot more sense than trying to hide behind a curtain.

what I feel is unnecessary, and I think this about anyone who does this, is to put a QLers name on a thread topic which then starts off a feeding frenzy.

I spoke to Hashin (that's his name, by the way) via PM when he first opened his thread about procreation :D - we are OK with each other and 'moved on' (as you would say - I didn't) where each other are concerned and went on to chat about other things.

Are you upset because you don't join in with events organised by the Social Group? It was through that Group that I and others met each other in Doha. Just because one is willing to go out and meet people, doesn't make a person part of any gang. It's called getting a life!
