Does anybody out there have opinions about Mesaieed compared to Doha?

I´m so grateful over your answers, it helps us to get a clearer view before we come this saturday. The hole monday we will spend in Mesaieed to see how it is.

Fibi....

What is the name of the residence that you live, maybee we will visit that area, to see the houses. I have spoken to Ove at the Norweigian school and we will pay them a visit on monday 10.15.

How many children do you have, at what age, I suppose that you are from Norway or?

Is it really safe for the children to take bike to school, what about traffic?

They are building a new residence due to Hydro Aluminium, do you know anything about that place (I guess that you refered to that as "large project")

Hi Victoria.

I live in Mesaieed, and have children in the Norwegian school. We are very pleased with the school, and the children are much more happy here than at the big school they went to in Norway.

So if you plan to put your children in this school, I very much advice you to live in Mesaieed, otherwise they will have quite a long way from Doha to Mesaieed Some of the kids live in Doha and commute to Mesaieed, and that can take up to an hour everyway depending on where they live and traffic, of course.

Mesaieed is, as someone al ready mention, an industrial town. We live in a residential area, not in a compound, so no walls around the house, like you see in Doha. The kids can walk or ride their bikes to school, and they can also do that to see friend or for after-school activities. We feel very safe here. There is a club, Al Banush for the senior staff at Qafco. Its quite nice, brand new pool, restaurant, tennis courts, gym etc. There is also a golf course here.

The school try to organise after-school activites for the children, and parents join in to help. It can be swimming lessons, golf, crafts, football etc. Many of the children take ridng lessons at Al Shaqab in Doha.

So you can really stay busy and activated if you want to. We are a close knit community were everybody knows each other, and that can be both positive and negative....

Due to some large projects, we are expecting a lot more Norwegians (and probably other nationalities) to come to Mesaieed within the next year or two, so the number of students at the school is going to increase. You should take a look at the schools home page: www.dnsqatar.com

the eventual plan is to house all mesaieed employess in a community built for them....but that could take time.

there are clubs and mini shopping avenues in mesaieed.

but coming to doha isnt a hassle from mesaieed.its cool.

i would think the priority would lie with the child's school....hubby can manage travel...but its always better not to stress a child travelling while attending school.

what do you think?

there is a very small groceries (shop rite) ... and a park too. But mostly are frequent by guys/bachelor/workers who living there.

I believe it will getting better. They building senior staff acommodation, the plan would be relocating the family of the staffs who working in mesaieed to mesaieed.

Thanks for the answer, Your answer was what I expected, It will be interesting to see this i real life in a couple of days. Life would be easier if we find out that we can live in Mesaieed, but It´s not really what we belive will be the best and most amusing.

Is there any shopping, restaurants, activities for children etc in Mesaieed?

mesaieed has its own residential community but life is pretty dull as i have seen it.....but since you want the norwegian school and the place of work is the same...then it would be wiser to stay in mesaieed.no point making your child travel 30-40mins up and down everyday.could be longer depending on where you stay in doha and traffic.

doha is not that far away.
