Men - Pregnancy - Abortion

cynbob
By cynbob

I thought of combining the two other forums listed and pose these questions:

What if men were able to get pregnant and the pregnancy is unwanted, would abortion be legal throughout the land?

Would there be a stigma attached to men who opted to abort the unwanted pregnancy?

Would abortion even be an issue?

LOL. Well in Canada the law is that only women who need an abortion for physical or mental reasons should be allowed to have one, so the rule of thumb is, if a woman, who is biologically and psychologically meant to be a mother, is asking to abort her fetus, she obviously needs it.

Well then the girl is obviously emotionally unstable! She shouldn't be allowed her kid either.

Yep wise girl Gypsy.. but what if the girl changes her views half way through.. First she wants it then after getting pregnant she changes her mind?

No doubt! And any intelligent, sane woman would prefer them. So the woman who doesn't avail herself of then and instead chooses to repeatedly get abortions must certainly have something mentally wrong with her, and should be given the abortions, because she shouldn't be allowed to raise a child!

By cynbob• 11 Feb 2009 13:35

I get your point. I just think given the birth control methods available today, these methods are less traumatic on a woman's body than numerous abortions.

By Gypsy• 11 Feb 2009 13:28
Gypsy

All women are asking for is to be allowed to control ourselves and our bodies. The same rights men get.

As for those who says abortion shouldn't be allowed to be used as a method of birth control, I always start to agree with that...and then I think, DEAR GOD, we would allow someone who could make that decision so lightly that they could go through it multiple times have a child!!!

I think you mean Come ooooooooooon...but that's a different discussion.

I think the whole point is no one should be making decisions for anyone else.

In the real world, or some of the real world, women aren't "forced" to make decisions. Women are capable of making up their own mind.

This is when unfair judgements are made of the women who choose to terminate a pregnancy.

Would these same judgements be made of men if they chose to terminate a pregnancy?

Too many ifs but the result is the same, if men would get pregnant they wouldn't be the leading gender, so they would be forced to take the decisions forced on them by the leading gender (in this case, the women)

So it's just a matter of naming, who u call men and who u call women.

It's all relative.

That's why it's easier for the women (in the real world) to follow the leaders (men) and stop trying to take a place that is not theirs, and that will never fit them until they stop being women completely.

And yet they still find it offensive to be called men!!! Why not? u want to have sex without worrying about getting pregnant, u want to dress like men and lead companies and countries without having to worry about a husband who leads a company or a country, u want to stop breast feeding...

cum oooooooooon

What a great lecturer/professor! He/She used a great tactic to get the discussion going.

Obviously, it made an impact on you because you still remember the lecture.

I would have loved to have been involved in that sort of discussion.

Precautionary measures don't always work. There's an exception.

Rape victims--another exception.

Using abortion as a method of birth control is a stupid method.

A painful act? Yes, for all involved.

Bottom line...it should be kept as an individual's choice. Judgements should not be made.

The lecture started out being about how to but aside our own personal feelings on subjects and debate a topic on ethics from a true ethical point of view, the lecturer then asked us to pick the subjects that were most emotive to people and needless to say both Euthanasia and Abortion were the top two and then asked us to argument for and against as ethically as possible, pretty much all of us failed to debate both topics as most of us mixed our own personal issues into the subjects, so the lecturer changed tact and asked those of us that had, had a personal experience involving either of those topics to stand up and recount it and he did. What we learn from the lesson was as I stated before. Not really an ethical one but then again not all things can be solved with ethics.

Good for him for sharing his personal story in a ETHICS class, at that..

And kudos to you for sharing in an open forum.

Not sure if it got any wheels turning, but if it got just one person to think---that's a start.

but the story is not mine, the young man whom the story involves was in my ethics class at uni and recounted it to hi light a point. I think because it was re told by him it made that much more of an impact.

My thoughts exactly and my point in posting this scenario. People are very quick to judge others.

Unless they have walked in the woman's high heels---they have no idea what what kind of journey she has traveled.

Point well taken. I think that some people feel that these decisions are easy to make when standing on the sidelines. If put in the woman's position, the decisions would not easily be made.

Driven by reason, it is probable that a male would put "pencil to paper" and figure out what to do. He would weigh his options.

No quick decisions or judgements would be made if the tables were turned.

I think it would be, here is a real life scenario to prove that point.

a young woman of 20 found out she was pregnant, given she was in here final years of study as a lawyer at uni and had a very bright future ahead of her, she told her boyfriend of 3 years she was going to terminate the baby, the boyfriend was pretty pissed that she could make such a decision without taking his feelings into account as he wanted her to keep the baby, after all it was technically half his, now this is where the story gets intriguing the young woman would only agree to have the baby if he signed a legal document that once the baby was born he would take full responsibility for it, in other words he was to legally be the baby's only parent and the young woman would not in any way be responsible for the rearing of that child other than what is required by law in terms of child support payments. The story has a somewhat of a sad ending as realising what he was being asked to do he quickly realised that he didn't want to give up his life at that point to rear a child, yet this is exactly what he was asking his girlfriend to do.

You see it is easy for a person to judge and make a decision when they know the decision will not greatly effect them.

LOL-No, but I have seen it before. Given that, would it be legal for men to abort unwanted pregnancies?

Gypsy--I agree with you totally! I don't think it would be such a hot topic if the roles were reversed!

I think it would be completely legalized. Unless you had a complete reversal of roles, and women were the one's in charge of the world, then you would see a similar scenario. It's all about control.
