Medical facility availability
Considering accepting a contract position in Qatar. Having read many postings on what and what not to do, I feel confident to move ahead. However, I cannot find any information on good hospitals in Qatar, or evac EMS facilities located in the Middle East. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

while Al Ahli is a decent medical set up for casual medical treatment i have to agree with kimo about the status of medical care in Doha.... the best advice is to stay healthy...
she is right in her assessment...
especially for emergency medical treatment Doha isnt the place...
the biggest problem in my assessment is the sad attitude of most medical and paramedical staff...
quality has obviously taken a back seat and most people just walk thro sensitive and responsible jobs with hardly aany conviction... more interest is shown in what the other doctor earns at the end of the month...
no wonder the rich fly abroad for medical care when it comes to emergencies...
so best mantra stay healthy
I came to here two months ago, first I took my son to Doha Clinic Hospital, it was okay, then, I went to Health Care Centre and Hamad Hospital which I found not so good, last week, I went to Al Ahli, like PWB78 says, it's very modern and acceptable, I am happy with Al Ahli.
I had a baby at Al Ahli private hospital and found it to be very modern and acceptable. I don't have a behind-the-scenes perspective but I was very happy there. We take our kids to the pediatricians there and they're great. Late at night, we've used the gov't run children's emergency services and found the doctors to be helpful and competent. Not exactly the environment you may be used to but it did the job. My husband has used the gov't emergency services at Hamad and while it is overrun with patients, he received acceptable care. It's not perfect but I don't feel unsafe when my family gets sick. Best wishes.
Sorry Max48 but you will not find any hospital in Qatar that will stand up to the standard of "best practice" healthcare that you would be used to at home. I am not saying that there are no good practictioners anywhere but they would be hard to find. HMC is the worst run hospital I have come across in 22 years of hospital work. 99% of mistakes (serious ones at that) are hidden and the quality of a lot of the staff makes you want to hit your head against the wall. The private hospitals I have not had a lot to do with, but seriously doubt they are that much better. The "American" hospital is not run by Americans and is in a building not purpose built to be a hospital. Al Ahli has been through at least 2 sets of management teams that have left in absolute frustration. The sports hospital is not yet open, have some good staff but they can't seem to get that off the ground either, very little direction. I have used the "medical facilities" here 4 times in 2 years for my family of 4. In other words, only when I absolutely had to. So mate, I suggest that you stay healthy.
