Marooned in Iraq (2002 - Iran)
Directed by Bahman Ghobadi
(In Kurdish language with English translations)
At the height of the first Gulf War in the 1990's, three seemingly laidback men of one family from Kurdish Iran crosses the Kurdish mountains and meets with Kurdish Iraqis.
In what seems to sound like this movie will veer you to seek out sociological or political drama tones by the movie title, it surprised me that the movie was rather comedic BUT with a visual representation of the actual events. I don't know how the director did it, but having a lighthearted tone by a somewhat 'misfit' adventures of these three men (a father and his two siblings) contrasts and balances the rather visual scenes of how bombings were incurred during the height of the Gulf War, a teacher teaching school-less children about the 'positives' and 'negatives' of an airplane (if you know what I mean), the burials of thousands of Kurdish Iraqis blamely done by Saddam Hussein's previous historical plight, to just as the culture clash for both Iranian and Iraqis in the same Kurdish region. It tends to be complicated yet some how the movie is still very simple, and this is what impresses me in this movie.
I have heard that Georgetown and Northwestern have a community lending policy for a small fee, but others may as well. Let me know how that works for you. :-)

I'll see to checking out the Education City libraries next time. Finally some other references than just the plain ol' Saqr, Virgin, and IMDb. :-)

If people were not downloading them others would not upload them. I know you wouldn't think it's okay for you to steal from a thief and justify it by saying the thief stole in the first place.
There are many things in the world I would like to have but I cannot afford them. I don't steal them and justify it. I set my priorities and spend my money accordingly. I pass up other things that I want because I spend some of my money on having DVDs shipped in.
I would encourage you to pay a fee at one of the EC libraries and check out DVDs to watch. I think this would be well worth your money and wouldn't undercut the industry and filmmakers you profess to admire. :-)

The lesser evil...and a good exposure hobby of good international cinema. I buy an original copy of the movie by its availability.
But wait. In a more complicated details I think I'm not totally 'stealing' by getting a torrent copy of the movie through the internet. THE ORIGINAL SEEDERS distribute and share the movie widely to everyone. THEY should be blamed, not me.
Plus, getting a torrent copy only makes my cargo shipment a little 'lighter' to bring it back home by just storing it on a hard disk. ;-P

Also you can buy them when traveling or when you go home. They are limited but are much better than they used to be -- check out Saqr and Virgin. I have most of mine shipped (Aramex is fairly cheap).
You always have a choice heero. Can you say if you don't make much salary you have no choice but to steal? :-(

So sometimes I have no choice but to get a 'copy' from the internet.
DID YOU NOTICE HOW LIMITED THEY WERE IN SELLING SUCH INTERNATIONAL CINEMA TITLES AROUND HERE??? I felt it sounds forced to their marketing mindsets to not sell such titles!!

Piracy is stealing from the filmmaker's whose work you should be supporting :-(
I view buying DVDs as investing in my own collection, filmmakers and the film industry.

I already have one more movie from Jafar Panahi and one from Abbas Kiroastami. If I'm convinced with one movie from any director I'll pick all of them movies at once for my personal archives and references.

And may probably make a review at it once I've seen it. Let's just say it's another tryout for cinemas made by the director.
