Man throws wine bottle at another in nightclub

A 36-year-old British manager, JK, was sentenced to one year in jail followed by deportation after the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance found him guilty of throwing a wine bottle at a nightclub client, causing 20 per cent permanent disability to one of his eyes.

JK was also ordered by the Court to pay for the damage he caused in the nightclub.

According to the records, JK claimed that the victim has abused him first, which was why he threw the bottle at his eye. However, the surveillance camera footage did not prove his claim but showed that he threw the bottle twice at the victim.

The South African victim, AH, 25, sales executive, testified that on Thursday April 19, 2012, while he was in a night club in Madinat Jumeirah, he heard a loud voice from a back table.

“When I turned back to see what was going on, someone threw a wine bottle which hit my left eye and I fell unconscious,” he testified.

Security staff saw the incident and tried to prevent the accused but he was faster than them.

“I saw the accused stepping back, holding a bottle in his hand, to be in a position to throw it. He was faster than me and he threw it before I could hold him. The victim was standing on a table with two men and a woman. The accused stepped towards them and threw the bottle at the victim who fell unconscious after it hit his left eye,” testified SG, a security staffer.

A senior security staff was notified about the incident.

“I rushed to the scene and saw the victim lying unconscious on the floor with his eye bleeding. The camera footage showed the accused stepping towards the victim and throwing the bottle at him,” he testified.

Forensic reported that a piece of glass had entered the victim’s eye. He was operated upon to remove the glass. The victim sustained a fracture in the bone around the eye and suffered 20 per cent rate of permanent disability.
