"A man is his own place."
Last 5 months ago, before I had my vacation, a client/contractor, a lean tall white guy, British if I remember, was bringing along some inquiry materials for a new lift installation. He said he had been in so many parts of the Middle East for, like, 20 years, I think.
I asked him: "So, how do you find Qatar's environment? You fine with it?"
He answered: "Seems fine."
I asked: "Never bored with all the people or lack of good stuff around here?"
Then he answered: "A man is his own place. Wherever you go, whatever the environment or the people are, you are your own and you will find contentment in it."
Funny I replied: "I should go out more."
It was a nice conversation. Although I can't remember the exact words we just said to each other, it was veeery similar to these.
I never forget the words. "A man is his own place." I thank that guy for visiting my office, even for just a couple of minutes. He showed me the one thing I cannot explain why I'm doing things in life.
I thank you, friend. Wherever you are, if you're still here in Qatar or if you're reading this post right now, hope we can meet again...
Thank you for bringing me back the courage after losing some sense with the harshness the recent environment is giving me.
