Hi,

can somebody help me with Make-Up ?

I want to learn how to apply choose proper Make-Up.

Are there any women that could help me with these matter ?

Thanks

Scarlett, I tried it and it works pretty good, well I am not gaining on skills here since I am already pretty proficient in hand sketching. But then another door opened... I can use the "artwork" to be included on 3D models as textures. Now I am able to play with hair and accessories :-) - Barbies world for adults !

I will still take a while to get good results these way, since tinkering with the computer takes more time then the actual paper makeup session.

Hi Scarlett, thats a very cool idea... I wonder why I did not come with it by my own... since I am engineer and artist :-).

I guess I could make printouts of a human face/photo and start these way.

Beside the missing 3rd dimension it should be working pretty much the same way as in reality.

And I might take up on that offer :-)

Keep ya posted !

go to Sephora and observe the make overs...best way to learn...then get a outline drawing of a female face, very simple one...and practice with the makeup on it. Read lots of books on makeup..Bobbi Brown has a great one...The paper drawings are the best way to start out when you need to see how to shade and line to obtain your objectives for correcting facial features. That's what they taught us in esthetics class, before we started in on our human models...If you need any help, I'll be more than happy to help you with what to do. I am trained as a makeup artist, but its not really my calling...but its still fun to goof around with.

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

i know of a guy who is neither a gay nor a make up artist who knows how to apply make up for women (he helped me out a few times when i was promoting AMWAY cosmetics once upon a time)and he did agood job too, apart fr that he is good at doing french tip manicure, also good at applying hair color, and also not bad at giving a haircut (he did it for my son). on the other hand he is also a black belt martial artist, apart fr he also has conducted aerobics and step aerobic classes. so i guess he is wat one might call jack of all trades.......

@nicaq: Thanks for the typ... will try and make it, but there is also a boat race on the Corniche...

@Shenila: Keep questioning me, I am the first one to do it all day long. But then I guess most f the inventions in our world were made by people started to think out side of the box ?

And for the reason why most designers are men... Again as above. I find that most women are passionate in what they do, but in order to be successful you have to be obsessive... just having a nice design or idea does not the trick.

But then these is also a big weakness of men, including me. I ruined more then one relationship with my obsession in regards to work, a project is finished when it is finished and not when I am happy.

@Supernurse:and again question, if it makes you understand more ! There is not much to hide from, especially my self.

Sorry for coming in late but why in heaven's sake would a man want to learn make-up application tricks when he is not gay or a make-up artist or both as in most cases you will see all male dress designers, beauticians, hair stylists, interior decorators are almost always gay. I wonder why? Sometimes I wonder if male chefs and male nurses are gay as well.

hmmm Anhamed, your are nosy today :-) !

Well there is one significant women in my life, but no she is not my wife.

And as you might have noticed there is females and females... not all are having

the same artful talents, or patience.

But even in the most open relationship, there is not always room for anything...

When time comes and if required I will share things... but for the time being there

is no need to raise more questions then needed.

Still waiting to give your face a try !

Thats very true .. you can master the art of coloring on a female face in a better way.. because painting on a face thats hard as a rock with daily shaving seems a bit weird...hehehe,,,

I wonder where all those lovely ladies went?? (your girlfriend"S") to practice some of your newly discovered skills... ask them over again.. and give yourself a go...

Are replaced by a wife..?? *_^

Ahnamed, watching these things makes me even more crave :-).

I sort of have given up on the thought to master it... I am male and my face looks male,

so all attempts look quiet foolish if you ask me.

Reading and seeing makes wonder, I am fascinated by the possibilities.. and just seeing my own skyn look 10 years younger because of some female skin treatment or concealing product makes me envy your gender :-).

The technology and variety is truly mind blowing. I never thought about it much when I saw my girlfriends utensils floating around the house !

But reading you energetic post makes me want to explore even more.

But as I tried to describe above... a female face is required :-)

Haye well my skin tone is 1-2 grades darker around the chin and of course eye circle :(

It can easily be covered with foundation & concelor ..(I think i ve spelled it wrong)

but me being me.. dont wear make-up at all... so want to fix things in a natural way...

^_^

By the way found reallyyyyyy cooolll videos of smoky eye make-up on youtube.. you must watch them...

well there are make-up tips (specially runway)on MSN as well.. check them out in videos section...

will surely keep you posted...

and I understand you...I got some artists in my family and they may sound weird but sure they know what is art!

By Flayrie• 14 May 2008 14:24
Flayrie

Nicaq25, "colours beyond feminity" that is a really cool phrase !

Well I guess there is less point for a female to become a makeup artist.

If you have to deal with the ordeal of having too, every day it might become

a bit dull ?

The irony of my story is, that I do not like to dress up my self... I "hate" colors on my

clothing... I am happy with black and white... But when ever I do something, like

creative work, it has to be "fitting". Unfortunately I do not see myself as a canvas so much, hence the dullness in my own appearance.

I believe the real reason for men dominating the fashion world is, that men tend to be more obsessive, were women are "just" passionate !?

uhh... don't know yet, what kind of makeup and style do you have in mind ahnamed ?

What about your skin tone, lighter or darker ? I know that both is desired, depending

what ethnic group you belong too :-).

Let me know if your up to the task being a model.. I guess I just would need the technique, which is more easy to learn on a other being then one self.

And the entire idea would be way less questionable if executed on the "proper" sex :-).

interest regarding women's beauty stuffs.Strange that you're a guy but...I understand there's an artist in you that you want to explore...colours beyond feminity.

Women's taste on make-up are sometimes very complicating. Like, the shoes match w/ the bag, color of the dress compliments the make-up,the hair-do's, etc.

But this is what puzzled me over the years, most of the designers for women's clothings are men, most hairstylist are men and most plastic surgeon are men. Why's that?

It depends what brand of make up you want to apply...

but you have to visit some make-up stores first and ask for assistance from the staffs.

you will experiment what on me..?? the small eye thingy or the dark circles thingy.. well you cannot try the 1st but sure try the second.. though i am working on my skin tone now.. huh.. tough task...

and i really liked the way you described female world in:

"has its nice little features".

Never Ask for a SMILE..just GIVE it..

ahnamed, maybe I should experiment on you... that solves a view of the issues :-)

anahmed, yep got that now... I never looked at it these way. It seams the female world after all has its nice little features. I still find it fascinating, but unless I make a career or sex change it will forever remain hidden from me.

The men's world looks kind of dull now... a couple of pairs of shoes (maximum), pants, shirts and a decent haircut, thats it !

But dont get me wrong... Its not that I hate myself now :-)

hmmm but the thing with the circles under the eye... that I still might have to check back into :-).

Flayrie

By anahmed• 14 May 2008 11:26
anahmed

hehehee... this is what i told you in the start..once you go to any sales rep. in a cosmetic shop.. you can simply pop-up a Q... what goes with this color of a dress and this occassion... how to do a small eye so that it looks a bit bigger... how to cover the dark circles under eyes... etc etc.. what kind of hair style.. blah blah..

Never Ask for a SMILE..just GIVE it..

Flayrie

Hi Girls ;-),

Thanks very much for all the ideas. I went to some of the shops, got some supplies but

realized one crucial thing ! I can not be done !!!

Its not just a matter of the "canvas" and the "paint". Make-Up only works as a whole, beginning with clothing, hair, etc.

And that is just too much for a men to cope with ;-). So I guess I will stick to a piece of paper to sketch around and just keep my eyes open to observe nature.

anahmed, I was not looking for the hairpieces them self, that is a bit too far beyond

my scope of interest. But the place Alexa mentioned might have these styrofoam

wig holders, that seam to be perfect to experiment and "paint".

Maybe it is time for a iPhone... was thinking about it for too long now.

Any idea were to get one, except from the greedy sellers here in the classifieds ?

You can also get alot of hair pieces in many stores.. they come really cheap too.. from 40 - 50 qrs .. different types, texture and color ..

simply goto..New World Center or yes if you are going to CC.. there is a new store upstairs.. Al-Ansari... they have hair-pieces as well..

for youtube.. you can simply get a i-phone or place your laptop in the bathroom.... just make sure NOT to use water ... ^_*

uhhhh... thanx Alexa, I am really open to a lot, but what you just described sounds a bit scary, but will give it try anyway :-).

I have seen a young qatarie the other day wearing lipstick and kind of a nailpolish when I went to Qtel, I found that distracting enough. But then on the other hand I am

maybe the wrong person to judge :-)

Anahmed,

I will try uTube... thats a good idea. I will require a computer station in the bathroom ;-)

Have you seen any manequins, or wig holders here in Qatar. I read that they come sometimes in the shape of a human head and are great for practicing.

But I could of corse not find such a shop... in the hairdresser supply stores, in the

al Nasser area for example they did now new anything, not even were to get wigs.

Any clue on that one ?

Thx again and again

Where I come from its a pure female thing too.

because now I really want to know what it is... grrrr..

and basically NOT many men here are interested in female painting (^_*).. so i guess the only place you can go for is those cosmetic selling places.. where you can see many female guiding you with their own products...

you can simply pop-up a question (like what goes with this kind/color of dress for such an ocassion) and they will be glad to help you out... all the best..

thx pj....

these was of corse my first reaction - google...

There is lots out there, also on the manufacturers web sites.

But I can not get the hang of it ;-)

I can paint for hours... with all kinds of paints, my hand never becomes unsteady,

but doing make-up is making me crazy after about exactly 5min !

So thats why I thought I need more "hands-on" help, from somebody that

most possibly has had the same experiences before.

But at least I know by now, that it is not as easy as it seams... and that I have to

respect women with good make-up even the more.

Hi Anahmed,

Thanks for these tip, Sehati I have see only from the outside...

But I don't know if you have noticed, I am not female... that does not mean

that I am gay or drag or anything else "weird".

It just happened that we talked about local women completetly overdoing

make-up and not having a clue about these topic.

I love to paint so I thought why not understand more about Make-Up and how

to do it properly... then I might also understand why some people are doing it

the way they are... properly or not.

So for Sehati, I was wondering wether it is a female only place ?

1. Sehati (salwa road)

2. Beauty Cafe (mamoura area)

i wish to go for it .. but dont have enough time at the moment :'(

may be you can learn from them & give me classes later.
