Maid charged for sexually abusing a baby!

A UAE housemaid has been charged with sexually abusing her employer’s one-year-old baby and endangering his life, UAE daily newspaper Gulf News reported on Sunday.

The case was brought forward when a father filed a complaint, saying that a surveillance tape seen by his wife caught their maid abusing their one-year-old baby.

It is claimed the maid waited for the boy’s parents to leave home before taking her and the baby’s clothes off and performing sex acts, the report said.

At one point, the maid covered the baby’s face with a pillow to stop him from crying, the report added.

A public prosecution official told Gulf News that the parents of the abused child will also be charged with neglect.

the ones who take domestic help will need domestic help to buckle them in the car

I don't understand the logic though. So parents are "neglectful" if they leave their child with domestic help, but it's perfectly ok to not buckle them in in the car? Or let them hang out of windows in high rise apartments?

the maid should be beheaded ..i cant think of a more civilised punishment than that for sexually abusing a 1 year old baby ...and that will be a lesson for all dis psychos.....

If the parents mentioned in the OP will be able to avoid any charges considering they seemed to have been quite vigilant when it came to the changes in their baby's behavior not to mention prompt at taking action against the maid

All this time it was the maids who were complaiing about the mistreatment and for a change now it is the employers turn to complain. If only they had proper laws, proceeses and safeguards in place a lot of this recurring problems could have been minimized if not done away with.

You are ofcourse correct. However, there are also many parents who blindly entrust their valuable offspring to "strangers". This law is there for them.

Maid must have tried breast feeding the baby...

How about those mothers/fathers who are single parents? What's their option? My sister faces this predicament quite often when my mom(who generally looks after her son) travels abroad. She has no husband hence she has no option but to work and leave him in daycare etc.

Besides education is so expensive in the ME that sometimes even smaller families have to struggle to make ends meet. This is one of the reasons many ladies I know go out to work.

See no one expects such horrible things to happen to them.. at least not everyone does. And when you hire a maid/nanny, and have done everything in your power to ensure you made a right and trustworthy choice, you just trust that your baby/property is in safe hands. It's then the one who betrays the trust who is the wrongdoer here and who should be held accountable.

it is very easy for people say don't get nannies. but a lot of women have to work just for the the family to survive. and it has nothing to do with luxury. because i know families that both work but still find it hard to make ends meet.

some women do not have the option of staying home with the kids.

i know people with nannies but spend loads of time with their kids.

No Daddy's don't always earn enough.

But I guess its what your definition of luxury is.

If you're happy squeezing a family of 5 in a one room apartment and using an outhouse, who am I to say that's not enough.

no nanny no abuse of baby

By Miss Mimi• 24 Sep 2012 11:07
Miss Mimi

Is that what these parents did Brit? It seems to me that they were vigilant. They recognized something was wrong with their child and they did what they could to catch the maid, and then they reported her.

If there were no previous complaints about the maid, how would they be able to know she was a pedophile?

All this law does is alert people that should they catch their nanny abusing their child they shouldn't turn the nanny in. Which means that nanny can go on to be hired by another family and abuse their poor children.

Blaming the parents for this is scape-goating to the extreme!

Some very sick people in this world..I hope the maid is imprisoned and the baby has no lasting effects of the abuse..And hopefully the parents look after their child from now on,you can never fully trust anyone with your kids.

Many work cuz the extra income is more of a necessity than a luxury!!!

for luxury let the child be abused by nanny and luxury is more important than the safety of kids !

Perhaps the government wants to send out a signal to parents.

All too often parents palm their offspring off to nannies, caretakers, babysitters without research or due diligence.

By Miss Mimi• 24 Sep 2012 08:26
Miss Mimi

Just because someone has a nanny it doesn't mean they don't take care of their own child. Lots of people have a nanny to take care of the child during the day while the parents work, no different from sending them to nursery.

What happens if the child is abused at nursery or at school? Are the parents responsible than as well, because they didn't "check" the school enough?

This law is beyond stupid, and it's typical of the UAE who feels the need to punish the victims of a crime rather than the perpetrators. (Sending rape victims to jail for reporting rape).

I'm sure these parents did everything they could, they put in nanny cams, checked references, etc. But at the end of the day every parent takes a risk when they let their child out of their sight. But that doesn't mean you don't let them out of your sight, you have to sometimes.

good old joe... for real????

How is mistreatment to maids connected to this gruesome event??

I agree with lost-in-qatar, NOTHING justifies the horrible act!!!! NOTHING WHATSOEVER.

And it is precisely this thinking that scares me, pretending to lessen the severity of a crime by comparing it to other equally terrible crimes.

and by the way has any justice been done to the abused, beaten, battered and sometimes murdered maids all around the gulf countries. Sometimes its this very abuse, beatings and torture some of this maids have to endure that makes them do such things as they see no way out from this sponsors

By Good old joe• 23 Sep 2012 22:43

The maid can never take the place of a parent. The maids are there to assist and make the work of the parents a bit easier and lighter for them. This parents had lots of time to have all this gadgets in place and for sure they made the life of the maid hell by their constant spying on her and this must have driven her to do the things she did and if at all she did this things.

This throws up many questions. How can people be responsible for other peoples (hidden) personality characteristics/traits? How is it ever possible to 'know' or even suspect this might happen to your kids? Of course most parents are going to want their child/children to be around 'trusted' people. However, this could may well happen in the daycare you send your child to. How can you be responsible for that? It might even be a government funded facility.

I strongly support the UAE government stance to charge both the maid and the parents. No matter how expensive food you buy for them, how expert nannies you hire for them and how luxurious conditions you put them in, children are still 'neglected' if the parents do not spend time with them themselves.

It is no doubt understandable that in some situations especially in the middle east where expats outnumber the locals by huge proportions it may not be possible for the parents to give due care to their child, primarily because both parents are working.

No age is immune to sexual abuse. There are cases where children as young as one day have been abused. It is the responsibility of all those who care for a child to take every step to prevent abuse from occuring as childhood abuse has catastrophically devastating effects throughout a person's life.

Extreme caution must be exercised while leaving a child in someone else' custody. It must be borne in mind that the most common abuser of a child is usually a closely related person, especially a male and is usually known to the child. It is a good idea always to educate the child on abuse and to enourage the child to report it as soon as possible.

I think it has more to do with the maids arousal, not the childs. That's why it's called abuse.

But I'm still reeling over this: UAE laws state that leaving children alone with domestic workers, in the absence of parental supervision, is a crime for which guardians could be punished.

Ok, I just read the actual Gulf News article:

http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/crime/maid-accused-of-sexually-abusing-infant-1.1079653

An official with the Public Prosecution told Gulf News that the parents of the abused child will also be charged with neglect. The statement from the Public Prosecution also reiterated that the UAE has very strict laws to deal with individuals who pose any kind of threat to the physical and psychological safety of a child.

These laws hold a child’s parents responsible for the safety of their children, including selecting reliable employees for their households. The statement stressed that the Public Prosecution is not lenient with parents who are unmindful of their children’s security, and that it has the right to charge such parents with neglect.

In addition, the statement also expressed concern at the great dependence of many parents on their domestic workers.

UAE laws state that leaving children alone with domestic workers, in the absence of parental supervision, is a crime for which guardians could be punished.
