Maid Big Problem

hello everybody, after a lot of effort & expenses, we were able to find a filipina to be our live-in house maid. the initial state was that she was sponsored by someone else, she did not like her sponsor, we got her like a temp from the agency until we get our original applied-for one. when we had her, she was very nice, wife liked her, she asked me to have her permenant, the maid asked for this as well, saying she like us too much...we are only my self , wife and son who is one year old.

we took the maid ith us during vacation, we treat her very good, she always say she like us very much.

all of a sudden, 3 days ago, she said she do not work to continue here in doha !! i asked her if she want to go for another family, she said no, she just want to go home. although we have a contract with her for 2 years, only 8 months passed. we paid like 15K to get her sponsorship transferred to us as her old sponsor kind of sold the visa for us in his own conditions, she promised us that she will continue with us for even more than the 2 years !!!!!! now what to do....any ideas ...we are getting crazy ..but still do not want to go for the bad way....we still want to be nice..not to force anyone to do anything he wouldn't...but we had plans based on her promises.

thank you for your response. we are planning to sit & talk with her tomorrow. our plans are to let her go if she insists, she keep saying that she will miss me , miss the kid...we offered her more money, finding her another sponsor, going for a short vacation home...she refused all . hubby is planning to talk with her tomorrow, offer her a final offer ...she either take it or we gonna ask her to stay with us for like 2/3 weeks untill we get somebody else prepared and know exactly when the replacement would come. the main problem for us would be going again through the whole thing from the begaining, we hate agencies, we really liked her, my son as welll.... likes her.

by the way, there is no harrassment, nothing to do with us or our house...it is something related to her.

one last thing, if we ever thought it is slavery, we wouldn't be here looking for advise, as we would go different, we had plans based on her promises to us that she would do her contract (2 years), she still says that it has nothing to do with us....she refused even to try to find another employer.

I have said this once, and I will say it again.... having a maid is not being lazy or having a slave do your work for you. This is an employment contract, just as your work contract is.

Back home in South Africa, the domestic sector is probably one of the biggest employment sectors, as most South Africans have one (white or african employers) it matters not - don't judge people for giving someone work that has come here knowing that they will be domestic employees.

If their was no domestic employment around the world, billions of people would probably be without jobs.

The question I always ask in situations like this is - What would you do if you were back in your home country? In UK it's really only the extremely wealthy still have maids, especially live in ones.

Did you Google it first?

agree with her to compensate you a percentage of the 15k and then let her go, if she can't afford to then tell her she will have to work it off

Right on Red Pope. I think some people think they really do have a personal slave!

first of all if she leaves without having her visa canceled n had a change of heart afterward and decided to stay bk in her own country then u will have a huge problem on ur hands.

either u will have to wait till her visa expires or wait for 6 months to apply for another maid visa.

we had a similar problem so we simply increased her salary n she stayed for 3 years

i cannot comment about your maid wanting to leave or not, whether you should let her go or not. but, what i can say is that, you can use the maid's visa to another maid, and not have to pay another 15K.

so if she wants to go, and you let her go, cancel her residence permit, get a new maid, and using the same visa you paid for, transfer the name to the new maid.

there's always room for Plan B. good luck!

If she does not abide by her contract then you should threaten her that you will tell the authorities and she may go to prison.. Might work. But first speak to her politely and try to get some sense into her.. It is not easy..

Talk to her politely and ask her for the reason. There should be a reason. If the reason make sense try to compensate. If the reason does not make sense then let her go on her own expenses. Dont try to stop her coz she will run away to her embassy or agency then she can say any thing to them. She can claim you were doing voilence or blablabla. Once things reach to that level there is always embarasement.

Try not to put yourself and your family in any bad situation.

My advice is not only for you but for every one. I have number of experiences and I even have a friend in agency and I know lot many cases gone bad. Bad in the sense of humiliation and embarasement.

Peace.

Tell your wife to have a one on one talk with her. Let her ask your maid what's the problem with her and that maybe you could be of help to her. It could be some family problems back home but tooo shy to tell you. Make her understand and feel that you're like a family to listen but she should understand as well that since she didn't finish her 2 yrs contract yet, then she should shoulder her ticket home. And if she insist to go, then you dont have other options than to send her back at her own expenses. If you need an urgent maid, just PM me I could give you my brod in law contact number. They're leaving for good this month and wants their maid to settle with another employer. He didn't stamped the maid's visa on her passport yet, though med-test and finger printing was successfully done. Am sorry for you.

You better off by bringing the In-laws to take care of your kid. What the hell you thought you had, a 'personal slave?'. There is two side of the story, her story and your story.

also ensure that she truly want to go to home country, make sure you tell her if she goes you will put ban on her and she should not mind becuase she wanted to go to home country anyways

Wow, that is a tough one! I understand you really went out on a limb for her and overpaid for her visa and you deserve more than this hassle. You certainly don't want to be out so much money and have no maid and it sounds as if you like this girl. Probably the best thing to do is sit down and have a long talk with her and help her understand your position. Ask her if there is anything that you can do (short of more money!) that will ease her unhappiness. Find the best compromise you can - tell her that if she promises to work for two years she can have her vacation early, for example, or allow her more phone calls home. Tell her that while you cannot let her go now you do value her services. Ask her if you can both agree on a reasonable time she will work for you. I am hoping that firm sympathy will do the trick! You certainly have the right to say "no" to her if her request is unreasonable which it seems to be. In my estimation, that's not "forcing" someone to do something they wouldn't but politely insisting they live up to at least part of their agreement/commitment.
