Lulu Center Blank DVDs and CDs

Hi, I bought some blank disks from Lulu Center and they all seemed to be crappy.  Im wondering if this was an exception or the norm.  I have a feeling they buy closeout/wholesale versions of these products from India and they're prob defective (though they're mainstream brands).

Take all that CD's and DVD's to LULU itself. They may replace it to you . I felt their customer service is good. Cd's which I brought ( Imation ) from there are working well.

I have had all sorts of problems with Imation.

These vanished after swapping to Verbatim. Taiyo Yuden are also supposed to be excellent.

Another tip: use a special CD writing pen for the labels. Normal felt tips can have nasty solvents which dissolve the plastic and destroy the disc.

Interesting stuff. The defective DVD-Rs were Imation from Lulu. I got some DVD+/-RWs from Carrefour (or another store) that worked fine.

I was able to write to the ones from Lulu, with great difficulty, but they made a whole lot of noise and aren't readable. Rather than only lasting 8 months, they didn't even last 8 minutes. What a major hassle.

Any have you noticed the shoes there are cheap crap from India (no offense to any Indians) and totally overpriced. This place really needs some competition.

I bought some cheap discs from Lulu about a year ago. Datamax, to be precise.

Just a bit of background. I've been burning DVDs for a while. Mostly using Ritek/Ricoh or Taio Yuden/TDK media on my Pioneer 107D while back in Oz. They still work fine 2 years down the line. Those cheap Princo media work fine too.

Back to Datamax. Less than 1 in 5 worked on my Sony (rebadged Liteon) drive. But most burnt perfectly on my Samsung (do not recommend) drive (second PC). I own a LG burner that I got from Jumbo electronics recently (QR 150), after my Samsung went kaput. Those Datamax discs burn perfectly on this drive too.

So, here's the moral of this story - Cheap media are very selective when it comes to burners.

Also bear in mind, Imation media are actually Moser Baer India (MBI). Read the ATIP info using Nero Info Tools if you do not believe me. These discs are far superior to the Sony media (that I bought here in Carrefour) which stoppped working about 8 months.

Do not go by the brand name. There are just a few manufacturers around the world that churn out these discs. They are rebranded by major labels, who keep changing their suppliers. One batch of Sony media maybe different from another batch.

even if its gona cost u a cuple of bucks more, all the prices are virtually the same a lil bit up and down, go for Samsung / Imation or if ur budget persists go for a Sony .. DataMax and other crap itself sounds fishy... its cheap chinese stuff .. plus lulu is meant for cheap stuff thas it not for the quality :)
