The 'new Dubai'? Libya open for business.
BENGHAZI, Libya -- In the outskirts of this city, Libya's second largest, row after row of sand-colored concrete apartment blocks and villas are sprouting from the desert. Hundreds of kilometers away, construction cranes dot the Mediterranean skyline of the capital, Tripoli.
The multibillion dollar construction frenzy taking place is the latest and most visible sign of Libya's drive for growth. It's a push that largely ignored the global financial meltdown that left other oil-rich Arab nations stumbling over the last couple of years, and reflects how Libya is tapping its oil wealth to reshape a country isolated for years by sanctions and international disdain.

I spent a night there too... but only in my dreams...
I spent a week there too and that was during Ramadan. I hated every bit of it there :-(
I spent a week in Tripoli. Amazing how laid back the Libyans are..

Would love to go out there soon. Heard so much about the place till now that it would be sad not to experience it!
I Totally agree, I've been there two years ago on an official duty visit and throughout my trip I was thinking why isn't this place a tourist destination . There is so much to see and do
I would love to visit Libya someday,and even try to meet Gaddafi himself,his one-liners and swipes against arab leaders are amazing! :)
Does the Dubai ruler have a Green Book ?
I enjoy historical monuments, so I think Libya is better than Dubai. Libya got it all, rich history, longest coastline in north Africa,weather,man power and Money, but no leadership.

its about as close to Dubai as Saudi....
Dubai is "Dubai" not because of the construction boom only but the lifestyle there.
No beer, No China girls, No visa on arrival - it's no Dubai :P
