liberated students?

I was in a party at the Sheraton last night and there are so much people in there, mostly British and American expatriates. Why are they so liberated? Some students as young as 16 (though they look older) are kissing intimately on the party. They are like students from ASD and DC. I mean, don’t they have any respect left for themselves? They should be kinda modest especially when people are watching them. I was really surprised to see scenes like that. And one time, I’m jogging in the corniche and saw some students lip locking, again! Its giving me shivers. Oh my Gosh!

just turn your head away to another direction so you dont see them doing that,...simple... if they are like that, then there is nothing you can do about it.. let the police do their job,...

for americans and brits as it is their culture but it got your attention because these things are 'illegal' overe here. Yeah, should've been more discreet. It assaults the locals sensibilities. :)

Redsockfan: Are you gay? It's perfectly normal to see couples kissing each others but that's for us "Westerners" pretty normal, i wonder how you would react if you would go to one of the Academic parties here, kissing would be the minimum that you would see, ;)

western culture is different from the culture here..not that its bad, just different. If you are at a party, as sara said..be prepared to see things that you might not agree with..if you don't, then leave the party so you are not associated with it.

As far as the Corniche incident...that is a case of total lack of judgement on the part of the two people kissing. Perhaps a bit of time out in the local jail might work to remind them of just WHERE they are living.

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

i completely agree with you. redsocksfan please DO NOT generalize that they are from the schools you said. there are kids from all nationalities, religions, and schools who go even further in doha! I am an ex DC student and i dont appreciate such generalizing about the school i loved. we had good kids and bad kids, and the bad kids knew worst kids from all schools in doha!

ALSO the things they do, the kissing and so on may be fine to them, and to their families. so why should they not do it?

the corniche, ok i agree thats a bit too much cuz then they are going against the law. but wen you go to a party, be prepared to see what you saw. especialy with alcohol around!!!

Son and I just had a wonderful breakfast at LM only to see topics about 'Old fat Western men mingling with Chinese prostitutes' and liberated students partying in Doha. What a nice thing to start the day!

Redsocksfan, I have to agree that most of them are liberated but you should have kept the name of their schools anonymous. I have friends from both school and its really unpleasant hearing such things. For your information, they are not cheap! They don't do the things you accused them of like lip-locking in public and most especially in corniche! I don't even know if they hang-out in that place! Would you mind if I gave them the URL of your post?

cheers,

paul
