every time there's a sandstorm here i'd wish the storms here bring rain instead of dust. sandstorms are itchy and irritating, and they make my room dirty. i feel the dust inside my lungs when i breathe.
rain on the other hand cleans and washes away things, for better or for worse. it can show mother nature's vengeful side sometimes and is a way to remind you that being careless about the environment can and will come back to haunt you. like when it floods it's because humans have blocked the natural waterways through abusive reclamation or irresponsible garbage disposal.
it's probably terrible to think like this, but after a horrible typhoon back home in september 2009 (gosh it's 3 years already), i realize there's something brutally beautiful about rain. it may sometimes be powerful enough to literally wash away everyone you love and everything you own just because it decides to. it didn't even matter if you are rich or poor in many cases. it was the first time i saw money becoming totally useless. and i learned all this by only watching tv from doha and worrying like hell about my family because i couldn't contact any of them that time.
it did bring out the best in people though. also serves as a constant reminder of how fragile and fleeting life is.

I remember living in Dubai 3 years and only seeing it rain 3 times (and 2 of those times it only drizzled). When was the last time you saw rain in Qatar?

missing Asian n African places...
Yes Ryan, it is soothing :)
Audios of beach waves, forest sounds, and rain; they are the closest antidotes you can get in the dry, hot desert.
^I used to do that in Dubai, too. Really relaxing!
I miss rain :/
Putting on rain audio track :)
Close enough... not.
When it rains , in most places ,everything gets clean...for some reason, here in Qatar everything gets dirty.
Wasn't there good rains during the Asian games?
It rains a lot in Scotland
In 2009 there were some great thunder storms here in Qatar
Ummm RyanCanuck..... the last rain was in March or April I think..... the winter dragged on a bit this year!
we will experience a bit and shorter rain in between Nov to Feb, if I'm not mistaken.
Why would you want to make Doha like Kerala ?
Folks have you forgotten rain of Nov or Dec 2009 for 4 -5 days .... daily ....
Ages back.
Same situation here also, hardly rains.
