Let women and Catholics inherit throne !

Is nothing sacred anymore ?

What's the world coming to ?? Hrrrrrrrrrrmph ... Hrrrrrmp!

Gordon Brown has opened talks with Buckingham Palace and Commonwealth leaders over abolishing the Act of Settlement which bars Catholics from the Royal Family.

Mr Brown is also pressing for collective action to end primogeniture which favours males over over female heirs to the British monarchy.

The bar on Catholics has long been regarded as a symbol of sectarian prejudice but according to some legal opinion its abolition requires legislation in every nation of which the Queen is sovereign.

The issue is to be debated in the Commons for the first time today, thanks to a Private Memberrs Bill laid by Dr Evan Harris, a Lib Dem MP. Dr Harris says that Commonwealth countries need to be consulted as a matter of courtesy, but there is no legal obligation for them to change their constitutions.

The issue came to a head recently when Princess Anne’s son, Peter Philips, was forced to ask his bride, Autumn Kelly, to renounce her Catholicism in order to retain his claim over the throne.

Prince Harry is quite a cutie.

Why not let him be king? Despite that fact that he is young and impulsive....

If it wasn't for William and Harry everyone would have forgotten the monarchy long ago, and wondered if Charles was gay. (Which, quite honestly, I wouldn't feel right in disputing).

If it wasn't for the monarchy, we wouldn't have millions of tourists coming around to see the palaces or the guards..

If it wasn't for the monarchy we wouldn't have exposes regarding Charles, Camilla, Harry and of course the idiotic Prince Phillip.

If it wasn't for the Monarchy, especialy Princess Di, we wouldn't have millions of women copying her "style" and bringing billions to te economy.

Keep them I say...

Who cares who is on the throne? Looks like the monarchy is neutered anyway, and the title will most likely skip Charles and go to William anyway.

Gordon Brown just recently converted to Catholism, didn't he? Maybe he is just trying to bring his church and your state back together again.

The Gunpowder Conspiracy of 1605, or the Powder Treason or Gunpowder Plot, as it was then known, was a failed assassination attempt by a group of provincial English Catholics against King James I of England and VI of Scotland.

The plot intended to kill the king, his family and most of the Protestant aristocracy quite literally in a single blow, by blowing up the Houses of Parliament during the State Opening on 5 November 1605.

That was Parliament not the Monarchy.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

Remember, remember the fifth of November

Gunpowder, treason and plot.

I see no reason, why gunpowder treason

Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent

To blow up the King and Parli'ment.

Three-score barrels of powder below

To prove old England's overthrow;

By God's providence he was catch'd

With a dark lantern and burning match.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Does Her Maj have any influence?

What is her role?

I have never understood what it was all about.

Get rid I say.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

You are right. We have had loads of English Queens. Hence why I added the Queen Victoria slant, i.e. she was female, not Catholic but still had lots of kids.

And also it does not matter how many kids they have, the first born is the Heir.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

Err, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a few women HAVE inherited the throne (your headline, not the line about primogeniture.)

I think they should abolish the Royals for once and for all. What are they good for?

You would think he would be thinking more about the recession, corrupt bankers, teenage pregnancy and pulling troops out of Iraq.

He's bloody useless.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

Doesn't Gordon Brown have better or well more important things to do? I wounder at what part of his breakfast did he suddenly think " hmmm...why not try tackling this subject..." :)

That would be an interesting one. lol Or a JW and a Hindu.

Brit, in this day and age I think even they could find a way round that issue. Queen Victoria had 9 kids.

Bring back the old days.. We don't want change.. If we allow a catholic to take the throne that there'll be a plethora of heirs.. No contraception remember..
