Could any of you please advise me on where i could take up Arabic Classes here in Doha. Is it possible to be more specific with what you choose , as in if you wish to only learn how to speak or just read and write. Appreciate your help and thoughts....

I've taken classes through the Qatar Center for the Presentation of Islam. They offer both reading/writing and conversational Arabic, and also fun classes in Qatari culture and so on. 4864966 for more info.

If there is any interest, I'd be glad to lend a hand and buy the language course for anybody who needs it. Just mail me off-list at [email protected]

Cheers,

Rene

Tyrolean, that looks interesting but ITunes only works if you have a billing address in the US (or a few other mostly European countries). Basically, if your credit card is from Qatar you can't buy off Itunes :(

To get you something to start off, I recommend "Learn before you land" from Living language. Downloadable from the iTunes music store (especially practical for those of you who own an iPod or other MP3 Player). Costs 8-9 USD. I found it quite easy.

I've been using the Before You Know It (BYKI) Free software: http://www.byki.com/free_lang_software.pl

It's pretty cool for learning basic words/phrases - I've learned the numbers, seasons and Ana la Afhan Arabi (I don't understand Arabic - hahaha).

Good luck.

Neo13, there a couple of websites offering arabic courses, the most organised one seems to be the arab academy http://www.arabacademy.com

you can even transfer credits!

Try the British Council and associated organisations for other nationalities. There are a number of english lang. schools that teach arabic aswell - consult the Marhaba for more info and phone numbers.
