Laziness blamed for high number of Caesarian cases

Caesarian delivery cases surged by nearly 67 per cent in Saudi Arabia in 2015 to continue an upward trend recorded over previous years mainly because of pregnant women’s laziness, according to a local doctor.

The number of such cases also jumped by around 45 per cent in 2014 over 2013, which also recorded a sharp rise over the previous year, said Dr Ahmed Marzouq, a gynaecology and obstetrics specialist at the Saudi health ministry.

“The main reason for such large increases in Caesarian delivery cases is that pregnant woman have become lazy…they do not move and they are now aware of the benefits of walking during pregnancy,” he said.

“The problem is that most of pregnant women are advised by their doctors to walk during pregnancy, but they come up with the excuse that there is nowhere for them to walk and that the weather does not help.”

Is this really the reason ? Is it really laziness ?

Natural birth comes with many benefits. It facilitates breastfeeding which is exceptionally healthy for the child and this view is held by all the world over. Couple of decades back, natural birth was the norm but with everything now going commercial. hospitals now want to make the extra buck. They perform cesarean even when there is no need for one.

WT: I was referring to other bits of the body which may lose shape after natural birth. Ofcourse, private hospitals encourage caesarians because it brings in extra revenue

On the other hand, women have every right to enjoy the benefits of modern medicine and technology.

Your body will have a scar, brit. I'd call that "damage".

That is one point. There is also a thinking that caesarain is less headache and doesn't "damage" the body

No, it cannot be the reason. S Arabia has many parks and gardens where one could enjoy walking when the weather is good. Alternately, huge shopping malls also provide this opportunity with all of them being air conditioned. The females there prefer to undergo cesarean delivery as it is less painful.
