For your info:

A UK study has found that to extract flavour in the production process a trace of alcohol is used in the following crisps/chips.

"Snacks that are likely to be boycotted by Muslims are Sensations Thai Sweet

keeps dropping off every time I try to post anything on the forum.

Im getting confused as to which forum I last said anything in!

Is it just my connection, or is everyone having a prob.  It's really driving me nutz!  I type yards of biblical verses then lose them (not) lol

Putting (even 25%) cola in rum isn't something that I relish doing.

I was known as 8 bells in the Falcon Club (double 4 bells and coke).

I have never felt the need to try Malibu. Tried bacardi once but it had no flavour. It's really a ladies drink.

@Diamond tucking in to a shoe polish sandwich, with Quavers for pudding washed down by a glass of strained Nivea!

My alternate mind is too active tonight. Must cut down on the Captain Morgans or add more cola

I'm going straight to hell in a handbasket because nothing o nothing is getting between me and my Quavers.

It does explain why Quavers were in the pork section in the Abu Dhabi shops.

We had ours tested in Kuwait by the Path lab in the hospital (their charge was the sample, a small bottle).

They even told us how to "cut" it to get the correct strength.

Ethenol of course was cut 10 to 1

they ran a TV programme on alcoholics on Kuwait TV. Shoe polish contains alcohol.

Strained Nivea hand cream apparently gives alcohol.

The day after the programmes the main supermarket in Fahaheel had the Nivea and shoe polish next to the bread!

You must know the process having been in Saudi. The blue flame book?

If the guy had published it he would have made a fortune

Sidiqi (in Saudi). Flash (in Kuwait). Ethenol was available in Kuwait and became known as a "stiff" and tonic for obvious reasons. Add the essences and you had it made.

Question: Is there alcohol in orange juice? Has anyone ever tested

exactly how much? Is there alcohol in other non-alcoholic foods or

drinks? If so, does anyone have a list?

---------------------------------------

There isn't alcohol in OJ.  But all food has some bacteria in it, and even

in the refrigerator these bacteria will start acting on the sugar in the OJ

and using it for food.  Most bacteria are fermenters.  The process of

fermentation takes glucose (sugar) and through a multi-step process turns it

into carbon dioxide and alcohol.  The OJ will taste "bubbly" or "carbonated"

and there will be alcohol present as well.  There probably wouldn't be enough alcohol to make one feel its effects though.

Refrigeration doesn't kill bacteria, it just slows its metabolism.  If you were

to leave the OJ out on the counter for a day, this process would happen a lot faster.

a rotten orange may contain alcohol if it begins fermenting.

An over-ripe orange however wouldnt be used to obtain orange juice.

Jauntie I have just (hic) enjoyed a (hic) packet (hic) of Lays crisps.

was 1976, as I remember, and the temperatures reached the 100F.

anyway - I was giving these bloomin' giant marrows away, and one friend of mine took one of the marrows, hollowed it out (removed the pips and thread), stuffed it with brown sugar, made a hole in the base of the marrow and hung it over a bucket in his garage.

Voila!  Marrow Rum dripped freely into the welcoming bucket.

And all in the open air, Hashin!

 My favourite comment was:

'How can it be "very offensive" to have eaten a crisp? Surprised,

deceived or let down, but very offended? What is the next level of

offense: shocked beyond belief? And to what is that response

appropriate: cheesy wotsits?'

 followed by:

'I propose the following warning on such packets of crisps:

"These crisps may contain traces of alcohol. Eat them and you will

go to hell. This does not affect your statutory rights, infidel." '

fancy joining me in an orchard one day, and watch the cows singing raucous songs and tottering about and falling over from eating the fallen apples which have fermented ?

fermentation happens in the lack of oxygen...

I don't understand why it can't happen inside the fruit...

it ferments.  I know!  (and I know you know I know you know lol)

I had a jar of maraschino cherries in my cupboard in Jeddah and forgot they were there - BOY were they Cherry Brandy when I found them a few months later !!!!

I threw the jar and it's contents away - I'm sure to eat/drink them would have 'done for us' lol

"Alcohol is prohibited because of its mind-warping effects, presumably. It's not the alcohol itself that is demonised. Are they suggesting people are going to get pissed on a bag of crisps? How ridiculous."

"Even slightly over-ripe fruit contains traces of alcohol. So if you are making a career out of being a religious offendee, you had better avoid fruit juices too."

No I kid you not alexa.. OJ develops a natural form of alcohol as soon as its juiced from the orange.

I mean.. how far will people go with all this alcohol stuff. As far i know.. its not big deal!
