I have never heard of a fire drill of a public mall which includes the visitors. The employees, maybe! Just imagine if you conduct a fire drill in CC on a Friday!
What is been overlooked is the lack of knowledge with the common people in times of Emergency. True, that most of the office buildings conduct Emergency Exit drills on a regular basis. Even underconstruction buildings train their labourers on the Fire evacuation procedure. But unfortunately, many people who work in small companies do not have the knowledge or have the experience of an emergency exit. It would be great, if regular drills are conducted in the malls so that even a driver or a housewife knows how to take care of themself. This will avoid injuries to a great extent in actual situations.
I stopped buying newspapers, not because I can read them online...but the news are unreliable especially when it comes to local news.
You'll get a fresh and updated news bits on FB, QL, ILQ, that's for sure.
Though its annoying that the people (excluding me) has lesser malls to visit, but if safety is the reason why they do it, I'm for it 100%.
Villagio mall incident is a wake-up call for authorities to step up to the plate and do their damn job. The victims didn't due from the fire...they died bcoz of factors that should have been avoided if others followed the protocol instead of working around the rules.
besides, i dont like Landmark...too far from where I live and no smoking areas...lol
in the CC thread. Anyway, it is inter-related. You see, rumours and misinformation are coming out because of fear factor. It should be awareness, not fear
does not mean the panic you tend to imagine. What I wanna drive is, restraint should be practice by the authorities in closing this malls onerously when they can do some compromise. And when we say compromise, it also doesn't mean compromise the safety. There are ways to make the mall open and safe while doing retrofitting safety-related works. Or do it portion by portion. so as not to abrupt the business inside. It's a win-win situation. What is happening now is win-lose situation.
I'm not sure I understand your No need to panic comment Flor.
I took the poster's meaning to be informative, the mall was closed (which it isn't obviously) - so where's the panic even if this rumor was true - panic I can't go to a mall, panic I can't buy an overpriced coffee in a second rate coffee shop?
Will people flood the streets because 3 malls are closed? Will they starve? Will they run amok?
That said, yes, the information should have been confirmed before being disseminated, but I don't see (even incorrectly) stating a shopping centre is closed as spreading panic amongst the masses (unless someone has a large sum of money literally burning a hole in their pocketbook).
Firstly, I am by nature a pessimist......that's just the way I am. I don't really do fluffy bunny or cute kitten stories. And tend not to comment on such posts.
Now, you may be an optimist.....which is great for you.....but you do comment on the 'criticism' posts and are always in denial.
So to resolve this matter, and bring out the positive side in me, why don't you list some good things about Qatar and I will see if I agree.
And I will be honest and not just take the contrairian point of view you often manifest in your posts.
where is the balance. If you only post to criticise, some will balance it by their other views.
Why do you hate the others who don't agree with your criticism? We post our views. Mine is a constructive criticism of your criticism, so am I entitled to it as you are? Why go personal tirades?
problems with Qatar; The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
It's all very well to say 'don't spread rumours' but if you can't trust a cinema in the actual mall to know what's going on when it posts information on it's OWN fb page, then who can you trust?
What you have left is the fact that no information can be trusted no matter what the source.
but no need to PANIC! Over-reacting will do more harm than good. But I just hope the authorities are properly advised on how to balance the situation. It's already tragic to lose 19 lives, but it will be more tragic for many to lose their livelihood.
It's really better be safe than sorry for the authorities. But for the other party, what? The sooner they finish their initial assesment, the better. They can do the retrofitting safety -related works even if the mall is in operation. Everydat counts----for the authorities and for the economy.
Landmark closed?! Just expect every Mall will close for good or temporarily very soon because they didn't comply with fire safety.
Based on recent fire inciden, Mall owner and facilities management just think about profit, and jeopardize people lives. This statement may offensive! Congratulation to Civil Defence for sealing City Center Mall. We dnt want another 19 lives gone! I rest my case.
Trust me, you wouldn't want me to! Seriously though, with an exception to my chocolate fixation, I always follow quite a healthy diet and love quality foods, hence my attachment to M&S and Mega Mart.
I'm guessing Landmark will wait till CC re opens to start their share of check ups and installations.

let's engage in the reasons why.

Give it a go.

Thats well put Adey, Qatar is a "gong show" at the best of times, it needs constructive criticism to develop as you say.
Again you fall back on the 'if you don't like it leave mentallity.
Repeat after me:
'Constuctive criticism is good, it aids development'
'Constuctive criticism is good, it aids development'
Nothing gets changed until you point out what needs to be changed and why.
but why bother to look at it, I find more wisdom in looking at the positive side so I won't go insane!
inefficiency and decided to stick their asses here! Really, if everything is not good here, why stay?

This happens time and time again in Qatar.
Yes, DN posted it already :P
Please dont spread stupid rumors....
Only cinema is closed..

Only Cinema is closed, Mall is open, Dohanews confirmed it!
Have just been on phone to Wafi Gourmet who say it's business as usual there at the moment (4.40pm
Monday)
Trust me, you wouldn't want me to! Seriously though, with an exception to my chocolate fixation, I always follow quite a healthy diet and love quality foods, hence my attachment to M&S and Mega Mart.

And specially since the stuff sold are far better than most of the regular supermarket goods. Real value for money!
I probably bought more food from M&S at Villagio than I ever did from Dean & Deluca. Well priced, isn't it Fatimah!
FathimaH, can you be my Dietitian... ;)
Was quite surprised to discover them myself a few years back, and now I'm a fan!
Organic stuff too, and all quite affordable and of good quality for the most part.
They have everything, from rice, pastas, honey, snacks, biscuits, peanut butter, etc etc
Honestly, Fathimah, I have never been to that shop.
Can't believe you didn't know. Their chocolates are bdw a part of my essentials. Peruvian dark and milk chocolates..a very fulfilling meal!
ROFL LP!
What are Marks and Spencer Essentials? Do they sell food??
Let CC open, & Landmark would close for Safety Inspection.....
But yes rumors are about that it will soon close for inspections like CC did. Thank God I stocked up on my Marks and Spencer essentials!
No such information yet.
Someone should let Qatar Cinemas know that their site has been hacked, lol
http://www.facebook.com/QatarCinemas

Facebook hoax perhaps?
