Kashmir a major flash point
The recent attack by the terrorists on "Pathan Kot" Air base, has highlighted the importance of long standing Kashmir issue, which needs an amicable solution between India and Pakistan, sooner than later.
While India points fingers to Pakistani terrorists groups for this attack, they fail to understand that disputed and unsettled Kashmir issue is the key flash point for any mega war.
When British rule in India ended in 1947, over 562 Indian princely states were thereafter left to choose whether to join India or Pakistan or to remain independent. Pakistan made various efforts to persuade the Ruler of Kashmir to join Pakistan. Hari Singh, the Ruler of Kashmir, initially believed that by delaying his decision he could maintain the independence of Kashmir, but, caught up in a train of events that included a revolution among his Muslim subjects along the western borders of the state and the invasion by Pashtun tribesmen (both instigated by Pakistani Officials) , he signed an instrument of accession on 25 October 1947 to the Indian union endorsed by National Conference the largest Muslim majority political party. To add more to the subject, Kashmiris freedom shall be respected by both India & Pakistan. Its their right to choose whether they want to be part of India or Pakistan or a free state.
The International community shall interfere to pressurize India to remove thousands of troops from Kashmir and hold free and fair referendum, let's see what the Kashmiris want-they are the most important factor but unfortunately have been oppressed.
Anyway, my view will never come true, as so called "international community" has no interest in Kashmir cause there is no oil and gas in there which the "international community " can grab.
brit, well said, good contribution.
It is a cycle which continues because it benefits both sides and keeps the peoples distracted from real issues within the countries.
Pakistan blames India for internal violence and India blames Pakistan. Probably truth on both sides because both meddle in each other's affairs.
Time for politicians on both sides to realise that the only way to prosper is for both sides to work together and build an economic partnership.
