The rate of total participation of the population in the workforce amounts to 86.7%, - 95.7% of them males and 52.1% females. The survey revealed that 79% of Qataris work in clerical, specialised and technical professions, and 85.9% of government employees are Qataris, but 99.3% of private sector employees are non-Qataris. It also said that 72.6% of unemployed Qatari youth would like to work in the private sector. “This survey is of utmost importance because it reveals data about size and structure of the labour force in Qatar. Further, it plays an important role in shaping the labour market policies and the related issues,” a QSA spokesman said. The survey found that around half of the economically active population work in the activities related to trade and construction sector. This sector absorbed the largest number of labour force. The survey also indicated that 76.6 of Qataris work at public administration, health, education and social services - 63.2% of them males and 36.8 % females. The private sector has the largest share of the national labour force, around three quarters, most of them non-Qataris. Unemployment rate was about 0.6% in comparison to 0.3% in 2009. As for Qataris, unemployment was 3.9% in comparison to 2.3% in 2009. More than half of the unemployed Qataris are graduates of preparatory and secondary schools.
