Is it offensive to label a car "gay" ?
Vince Vaughn has had to defend the use of the word 'gay' in his new film, where his character calls electric cars "gay".
I remember years ago a friend buying a Triumph Spitfire and we said that it was a "Wooftie" car..
So, is labeling a car, or for that matter anything "gay" a slur against gays and lesbians ?
anything too feminine, even for a girl, is gay in my book. the same goes for stuff that are too colorful.
nothing wrong with it imo, it's just an easy way to describe things. being overly politically correct takes out all the fun.
brit, no , it is not OK, but we are doing it anyway.
I find it hard keeping up with whats a slur to whom/ what! I mean forget about the obvious "n" word "b" and "t" word etc.. nowadays people tend to get offended far too often that too over nothing intended! Perhaps cos it pays off..y'know like "oh I find that a racial slur or gender discrimination so I'm gonna sue you!" Really we are a sensitive bunch!
homophobic is a step away from being gay anyways.
So a woman driving a black car is a lesbian?
Very smart from a professional coworker to associate colors with sexual tendencies. I have a feeling he is an Arab and that is what mama told him 20 years ago?
pimp = cool
So, what we're saying is that it is OK to use the term when describing an object...
Rye: "pimp" is modern day slang, so it does not have the same conotations as gay ... :O)
hmmm, "pimp"...I'd rather be stuck in the 80's than being considered "pimp".
Rye: I have it on strict authority (my homophobic coworker) that pink is for ladies and should NEVER be used by men. Therefor, the pink phantom, if used by a man, IS gay and NOT pimp. :o)
well labeling things gay is too common these days and it has nothing to do with sexual tendencies. Just like how f*** is used.
eg This lighter is gay.. meaning it never lights
a Pink phantom or a pink SV rolling is definitely not gay...it;s a strong msg to the public that "Hey, I can even get this car in pink".. power money...Is it nice? Not to me
plus pink is in style and is considered pimp rather than gay, unless you are still stuck in the 80s.
a convertible Peugeot or Renault however is extremely gay to drive. Mustang is the car for douche bags..Jaguar is for people who wanna look cool/different who don't know much about cars... Electric cars, i dunno.. i guess no one knows enough about yet them to judge... but the idea seems gay lol
A pink Porsche or Hummer is gay...if driven by a guy.
It is pretty lame to unnecessarily stir up something and then ask "was I offensive".
no one tried that before, but I guess if you want to give it a shot...you'll be very very popular though...
The Nano is totally gay if you took it outside India, but in India, especially in the bustling metros it's probably the best choice.
Great for parking, good on the mileage, besides you can never drive above 60kms/ hr in any of the metros coz there is always some person or dog trying to come under your car while recklessly crossing ;-)
Just anything and everything is offensive these days....and what cab be a better way for publicity.
Nano is pretty lame too though has a huge market potential..
I personally don't think it is offensive at all and it isn't really a big deal it is made out to be
Does the same apply to the Nano ??
Seriously though, would you think it offensive ?
I think this term is commonly used in only a few countries, so not everyone would get it...
Ya electric cars are sooooo gay :P
it's a joke FFS why over react?
Probably because when you push the accelerator, it moans, rather than going Vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrom :O)
Pretty much like saying QL is acting gay today with the "Error 503 Service Unavailable" message :-P
I think he was trying to say that electric cars are effeminate - not macho !
But whats the point to label a car "gay"?
what a lame comparison saeedkan
I don't think its a slur. People need to chill a bit and not get angry at every little thing.
Come to think of it, in today's world, labeling anyone or anything can be construed as a slur against anyone or anything :-(
Let's go back to the 80's :-)
