The Issue on Banning

Thank you QL Admin (qatari) for your reply, but I feel that in fairness to all, I need to explain the reason for qatari's piece:
[quote]

Dear All,

This case is very simple. A number of people reported Airsupply via
the abuse form (which anyone is free to use to report abusive
behaviour) when he initially joined this site. He had warned him to
follow the guidelines. He chose not to heed the warning and continued to insult people. In addition to this he also registered on the site under a different alias to agree with himself in discussion. I then banned him.

He returned to the site under a different username and I let him stay as he was following the guidelines. After sometime I started to
receive a flood of abuse complaints about new comments made. I then
subsequently banned him.

All the hoo-ha about being banned X times is very childish. The point of banning someone is to block them from the site. The fact that a person re-registers a few minutes later with a new name does not lift the ban - it is still the same person who was banned.

All the talk about democracy, freedom of speech and so on has been
discussed on numerous occassions on this site. I can count the number of people (apart from spammers) who have been banned on this site on one hand. It is not something that gets done frivoulsy. No one has been banned for holding a certain point of view. If you believe the Palestinians/Israelis/Americans/Iraqis/Whatever are right/wrong I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with are abusive people who cannot respect fellow members of this site. [unquote]

THE ABOVE WAS IN ANSWER TO MY EMAILED LETTER, THUS:

Dear QL Admin

Please would you delete my profile from your system - I cannot find this facility to delete it myself

Since signing up I have found this site to be biased and totally unfair to certain members (one now a non-)

I know you have rules and guidelines, but I believe that if one member is banned for a particular thing then it should be implemented for the other person doing same

The quabbling and bickering that goes on is their business - it is a democratic site, not so? Freedom of speech???
If they choose to carry on the way they do, let them. Banning of anything was stopped in SA decades ago. It's from the dark ages, and you people need to re-look at the way you implement "punishment"

This site smacks of unfairness, injustice and mal-practice. Please delete my profile immediately, as I will not walk on unholy ground

I will gladly re-join one day when I see your personal + global apology to Airsupply/Banned15/Blocked16, plus invitation to him to join up (not that he would, who knows). I would ask him to show me this apology but unable to communicate with him

Thank you for your assistance in this matter. In the interests of all, please do try see my perspective in this. I have had too much of this NOT happening recently, and I would appreciate your understanding

Regards
sandastle

This is possibly a piece for discussion for all of you, but in essence is my way of being open and authentic. Cheers.

More than a few forum operators don't like arguments with Mods, particularly if the subject of discussion is forum-related. These battles about "why did that post get deleted" or "why did ___ get banned" can turn messy and turn an otherwise good community into fighting camps. (This forum's TOS specifically forbids discussion of mod actions in the forums, for good reason.)

If you have been a good member of the community and still want to get back in, just write a note to the admin/owner & indicate your intention to play by his/her rules. Depending on the forum mod structure, it could be that a lesser power banned you - maybe even who you were arguing with.

If you feel alienated by the banning, though, it's time to find a different community.

smile,

Here we go again........

Qatari was more than justified in banning the user in question. At the end of the day Qatari runs and operates this website that we all use free of charge. He does not discriminate, he only sets down certain rules which I frankly completely agree with, considering that there are people from different walks of life, with differing ideals; including children.

Whether or not he decides to ban one member and not the other, is not for us to quarrel.

Freedom of speech is important, but at who's expense. Where does one draw the line on what is truly offensive. I think that uncalled for foul language is where one must draw the line.

I think Qatari should be commended for actually caring what is posted on this website...........and nipping trolls as soon as they appear.

Democratic forum? Freedom of speech?

It's funny how Freedom of speech also means that a person has the right to disrespect people.

Anyway, go to ANY forum on the net, and they will have rules. When you JOIN the site, you agree to follow the rules.

As long as you get a friendly warning BEFORE being banned then there is no problem right?

If a moderator or admin bans an individual and seems unreasonable, then I'll agree that "God Mode" is switched on, but when an Admin is simply sticking to the rules, then I see no problem.
