in battle against Iran ... a business jet converted into a spy plane

Israel showed off its latest - and rather unlikely looking - spy plane on Thursday in what defence officials said was a show of strength in response to Iranian war games and missile tests.

The aircraft's sophisticated intelligence-gathering technology and electronic warfare systems were developed by state-run Israel Aerospace Industries.
But it doesn't come wrapped in a sleak looking all-black spy plane - the kit has been installed aboard a U.S.-made Gulfstream G550 business jet.

Undercover: The Eitam is equipped with sophisticated intelligence-gathering systems and is built on the Gulfstream G550 platform

The plane went on display at the Israel Aerospace Industries headquarters at Israel's Ben-Gurion International Airport. It will also be shown at the Farnborough Air Show in England next week.

Israel unveiled the plane last year, but defence officials said the aircraft went on display Thursday in response to the war games under way in Iran.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss military tactics.
"It has the most sophisticated early warning and intelligence devices to date and is capable of reaching all destinations required by the air force," said Assaf Dargan, a spokesman for Israel Aerospace Industries.

He declined to elaborate, citing security considerations.
Among the missiles Iran said it tested was a new version of the Shahab-3, which has a range of 1,250 miles and is armed with a 1-ton conventional warhead.

The missile puts Israel, Turkey, Pakistan and the Arabian peninsula within striking distance.

But not Israel nuclear Capability and military capability which are all contributed directly by unconditional support of United States... Israel is the 4th most powerful military in the world. Arab Countries should be more afraid of Atomic bombs which are capable of destroying one city in whole.

If your comeback is that" Iran has threaten to wipe Israel off the map, please read the translation version of that speech in non-biased literature and U will understand what that meant. Iran's president said Zionism like communism must be wiped off the map. We saw the down fall of Soviet Union without a military action after the cold war. Iran has not invaded any countries in more than 400 years.

I'm not saying Israel has invaded any country either. But they are just a bit threatened by Iran becoming the power in the region and they are pushing American political system for another war. Don't forget that Americans are not that innocent either. They have the largest oil reserve in Iraq and they will own the third oil reserve and 2nd gas reserve in Iran after this new war.

After this war, US with the authority of 50% of the world energy will hold China's throat, the highest energy consumer in the world, for another 100-120 years.

Iran with a 1st generation of nuclear power plant from 1950 which are partly done by Russian and partly done by Pakistan is 10-20 years away from building a nuclear bomb, if they were ever looking for nuclear bombs. Their jump from 3000 to 6000 centrifuge was unsuccessful because the centrifuges get burned when water is at high velocity. But because this is an issue of national pride and they have people support for this they never admit it.

BTW, I read in an article in their religious studies that building mass destruction weapons is against their islamic rules and their previous leader, Khomeini, never allowed any military programs with that objective.

Iran does not have a sufficient electricity even in their capital, Tehran. Power gets disconnected 4 hours/day for household in the country that claims to be close to produce nuclear energy power.

I hope people in US don't support a next war because I think this time our stupid conservative PM, Harper, will follow the Bush administration like a pet dog.

The AWACS is pretty impressive. I've been part of the Crew on one of the Nato AWACS planes some 20 years ago :)

What a big Deal, Most Countries got planes like this - and they are being phased out as they are old tech. Other means has taken over.

BUT it tells us that the threat is real. I predict that something will happen before November 1.

Now I'm not sure whether the plane I rode back home and forth is a spy plane or not...
