his own weapons; whatever he had at that moment; he threw in his anger and moment of truth....He is become hero in arab world for this stupidity!

my point is not what you are talking about ,but its about the work ethics,in the press conference he was representing a journalists which his job is to ask and argue ,he could've asked him a really embarrassing question instead of making him look brave and strong in the eyes of americans and western people,so what im saying that words can hurt more than the shoes.

By sandtest• 16 Dec 2008 15:17

To be fair, George Bush has come out as a gentleman in this stupidity show by a Sunni Arab.

Anyone can loose his calm when things get that personal, but Bush kept his cool, so give credit where it's due.

Not relevant, but just imagine, if someone threw a shoe on Barak Hussain Obama, all hell will break loose with remarks like racism, right wingers trageting a pious socialist, cheap tactics to defame Obama yada yada.

Put yourself in Iraqi Journalist's situation, you are of the most educated persons, and suddenly US attacks your country and ruined everything, including your home, kill your friends and loved ones and there is destruction and blood of innocent CHILDREN, WOMEN and men everywhere in the country. Now you got a chance to go to such a news conference and find president of US next to you saying "we have agreed to remove our forces by 2011" (not caring about the deaths and bloodshed he has done in the country)..... What you will do... Talk to bush that he should also say sorry to the people of Iraq !!

By journalistgirl• 16 Dec 2008 11:15

Some people become suicide bombers becuase they feel that is the only solution to a problem which seems never-ending. I guess for someone like this journalist, he's in no position where people will actually genuinely stop and listen to him (he may get his voice heard on television, but will people relaly take in what he's saying?) so that was for him the best option. I don't know, to be honest most journalists in Qatar seem to think that was quite amusing and we'll all be using that method to shut up people who rant on too much at press conferences....

i don't like or respect bush, but surely throwing his shoes was not the best way to voice his discontent, especially considering that he is a journalist.

BUT, apparently this journalist was kidnapped a while back and severely beaten, so he had personally suffered a great deal.

i don't defend his actions, but if the same happened to me i might have a hard time controlling my anger too.

If Obama was the receiving end of that Shoe, then everyone in the world, would throw their shoes at that poor guy, Death by shoe spanking.

This was not a good forum to vent his anger. On US television, there was an Iraqi journalist who looked shocked and embarrassed by this action.

Unfortunately, this action just feeds the minds of those Americans who have bad opinions of Iraqis to begin with.

It's a shame but, if it made him feel better, than so be it.

too bad, the journalist can't control his temper anymore.

you have a point journalistgirl, but i have another question,he did use the freedom that was given to him in away or another by the american them self (and i totally disagree with all the war thing) cause belive me the journalist know really good that if he did the same thing during sadam days he would've been executed for sure.

i know also in the civilized country they through tomato and what ever ,but not a journalist why did he waste his life in going to college and studying ,and in the end when its really matter he use his shoes and not his voice?

By journalistgirl• 15 Dec 2008 13:50
journalistgirl

well it's right people should talk as Faisal says, but I have two points,

1) Considering the Americans basically gave the Iraqis no choice and not only invaded their country, took away their leader (admittedly deeply unpopular with the Iraqis themselves), and basically screwed up the country, would the US listen to the Iraqis if htere was anything to be said, or would the Americans basically roll over them again like previously?

2) This is tame considering that there are also suicide bombers going off in Iraq. There are no other opportunities for these Iraqis to really tell Bush what they think.

a DOG, read the full article and Bush and his administration's response to the incident.

No doubt, it is an indecent gesture but think this happened in IRAQ; one need to be in such crisis / chaotic situation to experience their feelings since 2001...

It just goes to show that Americans cannot let their guard down in the Middle East (or in other parts of the world..ie Mumbai...just to name one)

Although everyone was screened before entering the room, an incident like this happened. It was obvious that the secret service agents were relaxed enough to allow this Iraqi journalist to throw BOTH "size 10" shoes. Had the shoe actually hit Bush, things would have turned quite nasty.

Both the act of throwing shoes and calling him "a dog" are quite telling. It is a dangerous world. "Duck!"
