"Car bombings kill 50 during celebration of football unity
It should have been a moment of rejoicing. The national football team, a harmonious blend of Sunnis, Shias and Kurds........"
This article in The Times yesterday said so much about the unity between Iraqis and how other elements couldn't BEAR to see that unity .... I weep for the decent people of Iraq
Here's part of a report from Al Jazeera - The match is in Indonesia. Let's all pray there won't be any trouble.
The 'Lions of Mesopotamia' have been roaring all over East Asia
The all-conquering Iraqi football team flew out of Kuala Lumpur this afternoon en route to an AFC Asian Cup final meeting with three-time champions Saudi Arabia in Jakarta on Sunday.
The journey to the Indonesian capital completes somewhat of an East Asian tour for Iraq as they march on in search of some much needed glory to give to the people in their troubled country.
Not sure Jauntie, but it's going to be a thriller...Saudi v Iraq. I wrote you a couple of comments yesterday on the Vict Beckham thread...how are you? So much rain like I've never seen before in the UK. Poor people having a summer like that. We are, however, enjoying the change of weather as you will understand. In a few days we're off to France and then Italy and I'm not going anywhere near a computer or work (being working a bit here in London) for a few weeks...yay!
I was so sorry and angry to hear that Iraqis out on the streets celebrating their country's win in the semi-final were the target of suicide murderers...over 50 killed.
remarkable since they are loosing there dear ones at home with repeated bomb blasts, had almost no practice and still going from strength to strength.they are my favourites and even if they loose they are heroes .
Iraqi people deserve some joy. Once again, they proved what they are able for if they left to live in Democracy without the Hussain's and the Bush's on their shoulders! Well done!
May the roof above us never fall in, and may the friends below never fall out!
Gotta go with Iraq in the final...they cried their eyes out after they beat South Korea. Made me think of all the tears that are shed in Iraq every day. Yallah Iraq!

What is happening in Iraq is a tragedy. One of the saddest things to witness is Muslims arbitrarily killing their fellow Muslims.
How dreadful. Sport is meant to be a leveller, for Pete's sake!
There really ARE some sick puppies in this world. grrrrrrrrr
