International Driving Licence - Can we drive here??

Hi Guys....

I am here in Qatar now and this is my 4th day in Qatar. To be honest with you guys, the life here and the procedures at the Govt. sectors are very very slow and I am really frustrated with various issues. Basically, I moved from UK.

Anyways, my question here is:

I am holding an ineternational drivers licence which is supposed to be valid for 1year which has been issued in the USA (its a translation of my home country drivers licence) through a UNICEF translation procedure.

Do you think I can drive here for 1 year without any issues??

Your thoughts and suggestions are highly appreciated.

Cheers

Krish

If you come from asia...

Yes u will need to take a test again...crappy rules..here

But if you have a GCC licence, can convert direct. U need to go to the traffic department and sort out the paper work with your PRO. then go for eye test (it was a nightmare, prolly not now) then they will convert..for you

I called the traffic dept. like 10 times yesterday and nobody answered when they would connect me to driving licence dept.

My question is, does anyone know where is the list of countries that don't need to take the driving test again.

thank you!

I was talking to traffic dept today and they advised that an international licence is valid for 6 months. You do need to register within 7 days but that is only because they need to confirm your nationality allows you to drive without sitting a test. USA / UK licences are fine - no test needed.

Once your RP is sorted you can go to the traffic department and arrange for the transfer to Qatari licence - no questions asked.

valid for 7 days upon your arrival into the country, but to be honest i also came to qatar with an international drivers license and drove on it alot longer due to the slow procedures to getting a real license. I got pulled over a few times (check points) but they never harassed me about it.

I hope this website helps answer your question:

I think you still have to register within 7 days if you intend to drive here on an international license.
