Intermittent checks are being conducted by the Police Dept

Inspection may be done at anytime and any place here in Qatar (in the road, office, the mall, etc) that is why it is important to keep a copy of any of these documents with you anywhere you go in Qatar:
    - Valid Residence Permit

(if ID Card is unavailable)
    - Valid work visa or tourist/visit visa stamped on the passport if residency is in process

Anyone who will be caught w/o the above documents will be sent to CID for further investigation; CID will call the respective employer/sponsor to provide valid documentation pertaining to employment and visa/residence permit

CID has the sole discretion (which may include possible deportation) for anyone caught without proper documentation.

This applies to all including wives, children, etc.

Hi Owen.

sorry for my very delayed response.

What I am saying is a child when not in school. does every expat kid have to carry his/her passport everytime. Wont it be a more risky affair for the child to loose it ??

Every other month there is somebody who works in Urban Planning  who conducted a census in our house. And that person enteredt in our flat to spotcheck the headcounts. What will happen if they found out that you are sharing with other family?

I have seen them doing this quite a lot, but what is the problem here. They are checking cars and papers which is within their rights, to be honest no one shuld walk around without identification papers.

How many cars don't have the new plaque for 2008 so may/could be a hazzard to others.

What is your source of information?

If random checks were being done by Police authorities, I'm pretty sure it would have been reported in a leading newspaper.

I do remember they were carrying out such checks for illegal residents, especially bachelors around the National / Souq area, but nothing further than that.
