Inhabitants yet to match Doha
Doha is a beautiful city with its magnificent aligned buildings and broad roads. It has everything that a beautiful city should possess--good governance, elite citizens, and able expatriate community--all making it a favourite destination. And above all Doha Corniche is a jewel studded in the crown of the city. Authorities should be given full credit for making the city green despite of it being a desert state.
But regardless of all efforts by the civic authorities to keep the city clean and tidy, its inhabitants fail to offer required support in the endeavour. Dustbins’ belly can be seen empty while heaps of garbage, empty bottles and soft drink cans, cigarette butts are witnessed at the roadsides in the residential areas in particular.
These heaps of garbage in the presence of dustbins speak for their users’ carelessness. So, one should not be reminded that it's every body’s responsibility to keep the city clean. Besides all the modern facilities at the disposal, residents of the city should help in maintaining its world-class city status.
Sorry if I have hurt anybody...but I think it's ones' social duty.
Litter is the problem of everyone who lives here.
That's true Fasahat. In my experience there is one part of the ex-pat population who aren't part of the problem. Proof would seem to be at their favorite shop.
Blaming eachother for the mess cannot be a solution. You are right to an extent but it should be our collective effort.
It is a shame people (locals and expats) do not respect their present home enough to pick up their own garbage and not litter. I'm always amazed as how much trash is routinely ejected from car windows. :-(
I find it quite revealing that there is one shop in Qatar that I have been where the cars are ALWAYS parked correctly;People ALWAYS return their shopping trolley to the pays provided rather than just leaving them scattered all over the joint;Customers ALWAYS fall politely into line and never push and shove;Products are ALWAYS on the right section of the shelf, with the correct label and the correct price; And where no one ever just pulls up outside and beeps, waiting to be served. Can anyone guess where I'm talking about?

Fasahat
I would like to buy ten bucks of whatever you are smoking. To start off with the locals should lead with the examples. Many times I have seen them throw garbage out their Land cruisers and Mercedes and then blame the expat worker for garbage lying around.
One of my late mom's favourite sayings, was Class is born, not bought!!!!
LP, lol, not sure where FAsahat is referring to, I would like to go please
"all making it a favourite destination"To who? o_O
I agree that everyone needs to be "litter concious"
Turns out you can't buy culture, good manners or civility. Who would have thought.
What "world-class city status" are you talking about? Do you talk about Florence? Have a look besides the Corniche and a few major roads. And what do you see? Rubbish, building material, abandoned cars, trash, sand and rubble, dripping A/Cs, .... World-class? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. A too good a joke.
